I see the steelers losing at least 2 of the remaining games. and i see jacksonville falling off.

So pretty much if Ravens win out we win a wild card. and we have an easy schedule left besides the steelers, which could be pivotal.

Realistically, someone could back their way in at 9-7, but it'd take several pivotal loses from the frontrunners. Miami is likely going to lose 3 of their final 4, leaving them 7-9 (could lose all four, we'll see what they're made of), Jets will suffer the same fate as well (maybe 2-2 if they pull out a win in the GA Dome). Leaves the Patriots to win the division, more than likely at 10-6.

As for the rest: let's say the Chargers blow their division lead, they and the Broncos end up 10-6, one wins the division, one takes the WC spot. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are huge in this equation, if Baltimore wins the rematch, they get in, 6th spot, period. If Pittsburgh does not win out, but they beat Baltimore, then it's inevitable (unless Jacksonville rises to the occasion and beats Indy and NE), someone in the AFC will be in the playoffs at 9-7.

There are a lot of "ifs", but it cOULD happen

    Division Leaders:

    1. zColts - 13-0
    2. Chargers - 10-3
    3. Chargers - 9-4
    4. Patriots - 8-5

    Wild Card:

    5. Broncos - 8-5
    6. Dolphins - 7-6, 5-4 conference, beat Jets twice, beat Jaguars
    6. Jaguars - 7-6, 6-3 conference
    6. Ravens - 7-6, 6-4 conference

(Dolphins > Jaguars via head-to-head, Jaguars > Ravens via conference record, Ravens > Dolphins via head-to head)

I don't really know but I guess Dolphins are the 6 because head-to-head is stronger tiebreaker than conference record.

    9. Jets - 7-6, 5-5 conference, lost to Dolphins twice, lost to Jaguars

    Barely hanging on:

    10. Texans - 6-7, 4-6 conference, 1-5 division (advantage over Steelers, common opponents)
    10. Steelers - 6-7 - 4-6 conference (advantage over Titans, head-to-head)
    10. Titans - 6-7, 3-7 conference, 2-4 division (advantage over Texans, division record)

    Out of it:

    13. Bills - 5-8
    14. Raiders - 4-9
    15. Chiefs - 3-10
    16. Browns - 2-11

Note: After head-to-head, tiebreaker between division opponents is division record, and tiebreaker between opponents in different divisions is conference record, followed by common opponents, hence the Texans-Steelers-Titans three-way tie.

It should be the Dolphins in the last spot with having beat the Jaguars head to head and they have more division wins than the Ravens right now.

you're right about fins over jags, but it's conference record, not division record, that's tie-breaker in non-divisional opponents.

Just checked tiebreaking procedures. Step 1 result: eliminate Jets. Step 2 result: head-to-head irrelevant because there's no head-to-head SWEEP (one team losing to both of the other teams or one team beating both of the other teams). Step 3 result: conference record - jaguars, ravens, dolphins. also, texans eliminated in three-way race because they're behind titans in division which automaticall eliminates them from that. steelers beat titans, hence steelers, titans, texans.

(I love this time of year)

This one is even better than the NFC, because there's so many different scenarios:
    Broncos: v. OAK, @ PHI, v. KC
Broncos could easily go 10-6, and should go 10-6 (Philly is probably going to win out).
I think they'll take the 5th seed, no question

    Jaguars: v. IND, @ NE, @ CLE
Likely out of the picture with the loss to Miami, however, this team's playoff hopes were done in several weeks ago after being blanked by Seattle. This team could easily be 9-4, maybe even 10-3, hell, they should be right now. I doubt they beat the Colts (though it's possible) and I doubt they beat New England in New England, and honestly, I doubt they'll beat Cleveland, because they have the tendency to slip up against inferior teams (hinthintseattle). They'll finish 8-8 and out of the picture.

    Ravens
    v. CHI, @ PIT, @ OAK
The fate of the sixth spot rests in their hands. They win out, it's their's, game over. Conference record will be superior than any conference record of any other potential 10-6 team (MIA/NYJ).
    They'll take the 6th seed

    Jets
    v. ATL, @ IND, v. CIN
They could lose 2, maybe all three of these games, pending on what the Colts do with their starters Week 16. This team started hot and then fell off maybe too hard. 8-8, no playoffs.

    Miami
    @ TEN, v. HOU, v. PIT
Too tough to call here, they could win out, they could lose out. I think they go 9-7, besting Houston and Pittsburgh.

    Steelers/Titans/Texans:
Titans have the best chance of these three to land in the playoffs, seeing as every team they play affects the picture.

Ravens beat Broncos so if they both are 10-6 Ravens are higher seed.
