The Detroit Lions will likely take a second kicker into training camp to share the workload with PK Jason Hanson, but head coach Jim Schwartz said a kickoff specialist is not in the plans for now, reports Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press. Schwartz said, "I mean, if the need arose -- I don't foresee that happening -- but if it was a reason it would happen. It gets your roster a little bit because when you carry a long snapper -- that's only a long snapper. And then a kickoff specialist -- that's only a kickoff specialist. It's not just your 53, but it's your active 45 on Sundays. It makes it difficult." The Lions had Hanson do more directional kicking last season because of breakdowns in kickoff coverage. Schwartz said, "Jason's always been such a good kickoff guy. And then we've tweaked our kickoff a little bit; probably do a little less directional and just let him hammer the ball a little bit more."
