ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the San Francisco 49ers are “in the process of finalizing a dealâ€￾ with QB Alex Smith. Mortensen adds that the contract is expected to pay him $8 million annually. This is a similar contract to the one that the 49ers previously had on the table for Smith while he was jockeying for more leverage with the Dolphins. It’s not surprising to see this deal finally get done but it certainly wasn’t supposed to take this long.

I still think Condon was playing everyone and just had Smith go through the motions to get more years and money out of the Niners.

How sad is that no one wanted him & it still cost them 8 mil a year?

And he pretty much got neither of the two. How he couldn't use the Flynn deal as leverage is beyond me.
