The Lions have replaced the retiring Jason Hanson by agreeing to terms with 38-year-old David Akers, according to his agent Jerrold Colton.

Akers kicked for the San Francisco 49ers last season and struggled coming off offseason surgery. He was only 29 of 42 on field goals and the team nearly replaced him on its postseason roster. Akers is a six-time Pro Bowl performer and it is likely the Lions will bring in a younger kicker to compete for the job.

Eh, I don't think this signing really isn't that bad. They can just cut Akers if he stinks up the joint. Kickers are usually the easiest to cut anyway.

I am sure Akers won't mind kicking in a dome for his home games for a change.

If Akers is healthy it will be a good pickup.
