The Philadelphia Eagles made their second trade in two days, acquiring rookie kicker Cody Parkey from the
Indianapolis Colts in exchange for running back David Fluellen.

That's a fairly straightforward player-for-player deal on the surface, but it's intriguing on several levels.

Earlier Wednesday, the Eagles announced they had released Fluellen, an undrafted rookie from Toledo. The 5-foot-11, 225-pound back scored a touchdown in the preseason opener in Chicago, but missed the New England game Friday night with a calf injury.

When the Eagles acquired running back Kenjon Barner in a trade with Carolina Panthers Tuesday night, Fluellen was the odd man out. But a few hours after announcing his release, the Eagles announced he had instead been traded to the Colts.

Parkey, who was undrafted out of Auburn, presents a new twist in the Eagles' odd kicker competition. They had signed Vanderbilt kicker Corey Spear to compete with Alex Henery, but Spear hadn't performed well enough in practices to earn an opportunity in the preseason games.
