    UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS

-- Larry Allen - Caliber of play at left guard improved late in season but uncertain if team wants him back at 36 I say no
-- Marques Douglas - Undersized defensive end had productive season, led defensive line in tackles Probably returns, though he's done nothing.
-- Bryan Gilmore - Wide receiver was used little late in season, unlikely to return One right move, get rid of him
-- Roderick Green - Signing pass-rush specialist probably not high on team's to-do list Retain him
-- Kwame Haris - Former No. 1 draft pick lost right tackle job to rookie Joe Staley, future is elsewhere Dump him
-- Maurice Hicks - Did well as kickoff returner, had moments as backup running back, averaging 5.6 yards per carry Play THomas Clayton, dump Hicks
-- Shaun Hill - Will be team's No. 1 priority in free agency after surprising play in '07 Might wind up on another team or probably might come back to the 49ers, see J Peterson
-- Michael Lewis - Punt returner (not strong safety) unlikely to be re-signed at 36 ?
-- Justin Smiley - Former starting right guard has little leverage after shoulder surgery ended season Dump him
-- Isaac Sopoaga - Nose tackle blossomed in third year in 3-4 defense Engelberger II bust
-- Donald Strickland - San Francisco native played well as cornerback in nickel defense Resign
-- Chris Weinke - Fill-in for last game at Cleveland, unlikely to be re-signed :icon_confused: Hmmm, he could be our no. 2 backup to Dilfer. Nay, hopefully he's gone next to Dilfer.
-- Bryant Young - Is retiring after 14 seasons as one of team's all-time great players Not returning
    RESTRICTED FREE AGENT

-- Billy Bajema - Blocking tight end filled a niche but no factor as a receiverCould use him as a blocking TE and slot V Davis as WR if we retain him.

There is a thread for 49ers stuff, why dont you put it all in there instead of making 5000 threads.

Larry Allen - Serious drop-off in 07, whether due to age or coaching is fairly irrelevant as he is more than likely to retire. If he doesn't choose retirement he's worth a shot for the league vet minimum for depth.
Marques Douglas - Let him go, never played until his contract year, seems like the kind of guy who only does what he has to do to either keep his job or garner a big check. Until this year has by no means played up to his contract.
Bryan Gilmore - Let him go, no question. A good guy to have on speed-dial should starting-caliber wideouts start getting hurt but by no means a guy that needs to stay on the roster
Roderick Green - See Gilmore, only as a passrushing specialist instead of WR. Unless Manny takes a total crap, he's more than expendable.
    Kwame Harris - gone
Maurice Hicks - gone, he's hardly worth keeping as a returner and his role as a RB can be easily filled by any number of FA/draftees/Clayton
Shaun Hill - PRIORITY...seemingly already being addressed, at minimum a challenge to Alex/X free agent/Y draftee, potentially a future starter. Hopefully we will see a real qb competition through camp and preseason and Hill should be in the thick of it.
Michael Lewis - I hope he still has keys to the delivery van...
Justin Smiley - Could command big money on the FA market from the right team looking for a mobile pulling 300-ish lb. guard. Not a great fit here and unlikely to be re-signed for market value, especially considering McNolan's statements saying guards can be had in the late first day of the draft for a fraction of the (Hutchison) value.
Isaac Sopoaga - Should be re-signed for NT depth, seems to finally be living up to draft potential. If he continues to develop could be a starter. Sleeper to get big FA money and walk, however.
Donald Strickland - See Gilmore. Likely brought back at some point during the season to fill in for injuries, but unlikely to command a permanent roster spot.
    Chris Weinke - Ghost
Bryant Young - Retiring. The man.

Billy Bajema - Underrated, and IMO a big part of Gore's '06 season. Hopefully retained for minimum contract, I don't see a whole lot of outside interest in him.
