Wide receiver Mario Manningham will not be eligible to play in the 49ers' first six regular-season games.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said Manningham, who is rehabbing from tears to his left anterior cruciate and posterior cruciate ligaments, will open the season on reserve/physically unable to perform.

Manningham, who sustained the injury late in the regular season against the Seattle Seahawks, is making good progress, Harbaugh said.

"It's going very well," Harbaugh said Sunday. "Been great feedback on Mario. He's really feeling now he can put his leg in the ground with some power.

"It's exciting and he's excited about it."

Harbaugh said Michael Crabtree remains on pace for a possible late-season return after sustaining a torn Achilles' tendon in May.

"He's hit every single goal, as far as his timeline, so that's been real exciting and encouraging," Harbaugh said.

"Everything has been positive. There've been no setbacks with any of the players who've been on the PUP."
