Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Melton has reached the point in his return from a concussion that he is exercising, doing some running earlier Monday. The plan is for Melton to run again on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Bears coach Marc Trestman, meaning Melton should be available for the season opener against the Bengals on Sept. 8 provided he does not hit a speed bump in his return from the injury that was suffered in the Aug. 9 preseason opener at Carolina on a block by Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams. NFL policy mandates that a “player should be completely asymptomatic and have normal neurological test results, including mental status testing at rest and after physical exertion, before returning to play.†So, Melton is now getting into the physical exertion and looks to be on course for the start of the regular season.
