The Chicago Bears have offered Carolina Panthers free-agent cornerback Captain Munnerlyn a one-year contract, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.

The newspaper states Carolina could attempt to match the offer.
The 5-foot-8, 180-pound Munnerlyn started 11 games for the Panthers last season, recording 61 tackles and returning a pair of interceptions for touchdowns.

Munnerlyn has 34 career starts since entering the league in 2009 as Carolina's seventh-round pick out of South Carolina.

The Bears could view Munnerlyn as the replacement for Kelvin Hayden at nickelback, since the team has been unable to sign Hayden in free agency.
