The Browns placed backup right defensive end Emmanuel Stephens on injured reserve, the team announced tonight. Stephens is out for the season with a neck injury he suffered Sunday during the first quarter of the Browns’ 7-6 win over the San Diego Chargers. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Stephens played in all eight games this season and compiled nine tackles. He helped seal the Browns’ first win of the season, a 34-24 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, on Oct. 14 when he strip-sacked quarterback Andy Dalton and rookie defensive tackle Billy Winn recovered the fumble with 2:27 left in the fourth quarter. “It was really good to see Emmanuel get that play,†defensive coordinator twinky Jauron said while reflecting on Stephens’ lone sack of the season. “I have a lot of admiration for his work ethic. [He’s] a really good teammate who fits in that group well.†Stephens, 25, started three of the 11 games in which he appeared last season before being placed on injured reserve Nov. 29 with a season-ending pectoral muscle injury.
