Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Freddie Kitchens is doing well after having to leave Tuesday’s practice and undergo heart surgery.

The club sent out an update that said Kitchens’ surgery to repair a defect in his aorta “went very well and the early prognosis is positive.â€￾

Kitchens began to feel ill during the team’s practice and was dizzy and lightheaded. The team’s medical staff evaluated him and determined he should be taken to the hospital for a further evaluation. It was there that a scan revealed his need for surgery.

“The Kitchens family is grateful to everyone who has and continues to extend their support, well wishes and prayers,â€￾ the Cardinals said in a statement.
