The Chargers signed OG-OT Reggie Wells, the team announced Tuesday.

The 10-year veteran has appeared in 117 career games with 91 starts. In 2011, he appeared in five games with zero starts for the Panthers. He was with the Cardinals from 2003-09 and played in eight games with the Eagles in 2010.

“The fact that we carried eight linemen originally, people knew we were looking for another one,â€￾ said GM A.J. Smith. “And we found the right guy, and that’s Reggie. With the Jared Gaither situation unknown and a day-to-day process, we decided to make the move at this point in time. We will put him in at the guard and tackle positions, and head coach Norv Turner will decide exactly where he fits in for us.â€￾

Undrafted rookie Mike Harris started at left tackle for San Diego in their season opener, with Gaither remaining sidelined due to back spasms.
