The Dallas Cowboys are using extra caution when it comes to Miles Austin and it’s a safe bet that policy will extend to training camp this summer.

According to Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Austin was given a day off during the team’s minicamp last week and was rested periodically during the voluntary workouts that came earlier in the spring.

The playmaking wide receiver has been dealing with hamstring issues for two seasons now and the team doesn’t want to put him at risk now. Austin missed six games in 2011 because of hamstring issues and then was sidelined during training camp last summer. He managed to make it through the entire season, though, and the team wants him out there again playing opposite Dez Bryant.

“During the year, there’s going to be injuries,†Austin said, per the report. “You’re going to be banged up here and there, but you’ve just got to fight through it. I felt like last year, I might have been banged up a few times throughout the season, but I kept going back with it, kept practicing, kept playing.

“I want to go. When Coach (Jason Garrett) says you can’t, you just kind of have to sit there and not go. But it’s tough for me, sometimes, just to watch the other guys going and not be out there, especially in this heat and knowing how it is to play wideout. You’re out there running. You get tired, and you want at least a few more bodies in there to take some of that load off.â€
