The Dallas Cowboys and Kyle Orton are parting ways.

The Cowboys are releasing the backup quarterback, ESPN.com reported Tuesday.

Last month, Orton was a no-show at Cowboys minicamp and was facing a fine of around $70,000 amid speculation that he might want a pay raise due to Tony Romo's injury-prone history or might even retire.

He was owed $3.25 million for the 2014 season, the final year of his contract.

It really doesn't matter who the backup QB is for the Cowboys. If Romo goes down again due to an injury, the Cowboys season is all but over. Perhaps the Cowboys immediate future.

Are we even sure Romo's back is ok? Orton was hinting at retirement since last season was over. Why wasn't this addressed?

No, signing Brandon Weeden is not addressing it...

Just saw that Orton signed a one-year deal with the Bills.

Can't be completely sure but I think I read that Orton ' retired ' from Dallas in order to not pay back a portion of his signing bonus or something. He could have a better shot at starting in Buffalo anyway.
