Former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber III was taken into custody by Mansfield, Texas, police and escorted to a local hospital for mental evaluation. Police said they received a 911 report of a man near the 700 block of Moore Road at around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Officers interviewed the 31-year-old Barber and then took him to a nearby hospital for mental observation. Officials have used the phrase "clinical assistance. ... for mental detention and observation" in regard to Barber's situation and confirmed he's no longer in their custody. “It’s one of those unfortunate situations,” police department spokesman Thad Penkala told the Dallas Morning News. “We get to those all the time: Officers determine this person may need help more than we can provide at the time, and that’s the best way to take care of it.” Barber played in Dallas for six seasons after being drafted in 2005 by the Cowboys and finished his career with the Chicago Bears. In seven seasons, Barber scored 53 touchdowns and rushed for 4,780 yards. Source: Fox Sports
