A sparse turnout here with two teams playing out the string in the first half at MetLife. The steady rain kept many away as well. The weather has certainly played a role in the quality – or lack of quality – play thus far.

Early in the second quarter, the Giants were mounting a drive into Washington territory. On 3rd-and-2 on the WAS 32, Eli Manning had Hakeem Nicks free for a first down, but his arm was hit and the ball sailed over Nicks’ head. The Giants were forced to turn to PK Josh Brown to attempt a 50-yard FG in the rain.

Brown hooked the attempt wide left, snapping a team-record of 17 consecutive FGAs.

The Giants were hoping to finish the season with a turnover-free game, but that may have been asking too much. Andre Brown lost a fumble on the Giants’ 19, the Giants’ league-leading 42nd turnover of the season. The Giants have given up 134 points off turnovers this season.

The Redskins quickly went three-and-out, but PK Kai Forbath easily hit the 31-yard FGA to give the Redskins a 3-0 lead with 8:16 remaining in the half.

New York would answer on the next drive, going on a six-play, 75 yard drive that culminated in a 24-yard, over-the-shoulder grab by WR Jerrel Jernigan for a Giants TD. Giants 7, Washington 3.

After the Redskins went three-and-out again. the Giants took the hustled-up punt and drove back into Redskins’ territory. On 3rd and 10, Eli hit Nicks down the middle on the WAS 11 for a 35-yard gain.

Several plays later, Nicks was called for an offensive pass interference in the end zone and limped off the field after the play. The Giants had to settle for a Josh Brown 34-yard FG to make the score 10-3 in favor of New York.

With less than a minute to go in the first half, Manning turned his ankle as he got hit trying to get the ball to RB Peyton Hillis. He stayed in the game and threw his 27th pick of the season on the next play – a ball that tipped off the hand of TE Brandon Myers.

Eli left the field limping. He went 10/24 for 152 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.

The Redskins ended up settling for a 49-yard FG by Forbath. Giants 10, Redskins, Halftime.

Notes: WR Rueben Randle (knee) left the field and will not return….Jerrel Jernigan has 6 catches for 90 yards and a TD thus far. Nicks has 2 for 50. RB Peyton Hillis rushed for 25 yards on five carries.
