Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard this morning made official the city’s bid to host another Super Bowl, Chris Sikich of the Indianapolis Star reports.

“Today,â€￾ he said, “we informed the NFL that Indianapolis plans to nail it again for Super Bowl LII in 2018.â€￾

Gov. Mike Pence, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and other community leaders joined Ballard at the Bud Light Zone on the upper terrace of Lucas Oil Stadium overlooking a view of the city’s skyline on a sunny day, a gathering of the city’s movers and shakers applauded the decision.

The NFL will announce a short list of teams in October and will select a winner in May. Indianapolis hosted the 2012 game.

Other likely contenders for the 2018 event include Tampa, New Orleans, Denver, and Minneapolis.
