With safety Jim Leonhard landing on injured reserve, the New York Jets will sign veteran free agent safety Gerald Alexander, reports Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. A 2007 second-round pick (61st overall) out of Boise State by the Detroit Lions, Alexander spent two seasons in the Motor City before he was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009. Alexander split 2010 between the Jaguars and Carolina Panthers and appeared in two games this season with the Miami Dolphins. In 43 career games, including 30 starts, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound Alexander has 159 tackles with two quarterback sacks and four interceptions. Source: Mac's Football Blog
