The Lions released cornerback Drayton Florence on Tuesday afternoon, 12 days after bringing him in as a potential veteran presence alongside Rashean Mathis at corner. Florence, though, never seemed to work out, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. He didn't play in the preseason opener and then played with third-teamers against Oakland on Friday night. He never really rose up the depth chart in practice, either, and considering his lack of usage on special teams, he appeared to not be working out as well as Detroit had hoped so the team chose to let him go.
