Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler was dealt to his hometown Detroit Lions in a three-team deal that sent linebacker Ernie Sims to the Philadelphia Eagles and two draft picks to Denver. Scheffler not only adds protection in case tight end Brandon Pettigrew takes a while to rebound from ACL surgery, but he will play on the affordable $1.176 Million salary he was tendered by the Broncos as a restricted free agent last month. The three-team trade went through after Scheffler talked to Lions coach Jim Schwartz by phone and agreed not to seek a new contract. Source: Denver Post
