Lovie Smith has already interviewed for the position of head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's the clear favorite of the job, and the only real question appears to be whether he'll take it.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers interviewed Lovie Smith for their head coaching position on Monday, according to Gil Brandt. Lovie Smith is the "clear favorite" of the organization, per Ian Rapoport, and it seems like this hire will get done sooner rather than later, unless Smith finds the offer he's likely to get from the Detroit Lions irresistible.

The Glazers have handled this coaching search in essentially the exact opposite way from the way they handled it two years ago, when they conducted an exhaustive search that took nearly a month, and where they effectively ignored a high-profile former head coach in Jeff Fisher. This year, they seem intent on getting Lovie Smith to return to Tampa. Whether they can get it done remains to be seen.

If Lovie Smith does sign, the Bucs will have to find a general manager to go with Smith. Reports have suggested that Rich McKay and Jerry Angelo would be possibilities, although I would not count out in-house candidates such as Dennis Hickey, Shelton Quarles and Eric Stokes. With Smith likely to be hired before a GM is in place, though, the head coach is almost certain to get final say of the roster.
