The Panthers, injured and thin along the offensive line, announced the signing of veteran lineman and former Panther Travelle Wharton on Sunday night.

The former third-round pick played his first eight seasons at Carolina and started 99 games at both guard and tackle. He injured his knee on the third play of the 2012 preseason opener with Cincinnati and has not played since.

Carolina brought in the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Wharton in late July but he left without a contract likely due to the two sides not agreeing on a price. Wharton told the Observer Sunday night he signed a one-year deal.
