Patriots defensive lineman Armond Armstead underwent surgery to deal with an infection, the team announced.

Armstead is on the non-football illness list.

"Armond Armstead had surgery to treat an infection," the Patriots said in a statement. "Armond is in good condition and is expected to make a full recovery. A timetable has not been set for his return to football.â€￾

Armstead had a heart attack at USC, but Patriots coach Bill Belichick indicated this is unrelated to that episode.

    “I think it’s a different situation,â€￾ Belichick said.

Armstead, 22, was signed this winter following a stint with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.
