Linebacker Jerod Mayo and safety Steve Gregory were each fined this week for hits against the Cardinals, though linebacker Brandon Spikes escaped a fine for a roughing the passer penalty, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports. Mayo was docked $21,000 for striking a defenseless receiver in the head and neck area. It was a result of the final play of the third quarter when Mayo drilled Early Doucet as he caught a nine-yard pass for a third-down conversion during the Cardinals’ final touchdown drive. Mayo was not penalized on the play. Gregory was fined $7,875 for hitting Todd Heap out of bounds earlier in the same drive, which drew a personal foul for a late hit. Source: Author, Source
