For the second time in his seven-year career, quarterback Jay Cutler must prove himself to a new head coach, the first coaching change led to a trade from the Denver Broncos, this time, at least Cutler has a season to prove that he's the answer for the Chicago Bears.

Citing sources, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday citing sources that the Bears had discussed giving Cutler a long-term contract in the range of $15 million per season, only to postpone the idea once Marc Trestman was hired as head coach in January.

It's hard to fault Trestman for taking a wait-and-see approach toward a quarterback who has feuded with coaches in the past. Just as importantly, Trestman must find out if Cutler is a natural fit in a West Coast offense that demands short, quick and accurate throws.

they should probably hold off on giving him 15 million a year perpetually if they can.

While it's a good idea to hold off for the simple fact that he may not fit the Trestman type of scheme, it's still a Windy City shame that virtually no OL/WRs & now going to his 4 OC/2nd HC has stalled Cutler's career/growth to the point he may have not even fit in the Bear plans. Some payback for all the on the field butt whippings he weathered.

Just hope things gel since we historically don't groom QBs...

They'd probably be better off giving him $15 million at the moment. This league pays mediocrity.

Cutler will wind up getting more than $15 million a year. They should pay him that money now before week one otherwise they'll probably want to pay more.

Woah! I wouldn't give him $15 million a year even IF he does have a pro bowl year.

Problem is exactly what Ward said...in this league someone will.
