Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha's Contract Voided, Free To Leave Oakland

Discussion in 'Oakland Raiders' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jan 9, 2011.

  1. Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha contract voided and now will be allowed to become an unrestricted free agent without the Oakland Raiders being able to use their franchise tag on him, according to an NFL Players Association document. Asomugha’s deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn’t achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 -- and he didn't. His contract also contained a stipulation that if he didn’t achieve his incentives, the Raiders would agree not to designate him their franchise or transition player. To achieve his incentives, Asomugha had to play in a greater number of defensive plays in 2010 than he did in 2009, and this season Asomugha played in only 14 games whereas he played in all 16 in 2009. He also could have achieved his incentives by improving upon on his interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season -- but he didn't have any interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks this season.

What, wait...what? Are the Raiders really this inept??? How can they have language in their contract that lets him simply walk? Wow.

  5. I guess this may explain those rumors throughout the year of the Raiders possibly shopping him....but no one would touch him because of that high contract.

I'm calling Clements and telling him to pack we're going with Nnamdi!!!!

  7. I would spend $100M on Nnamdi is that's what it took......seriously.

He might be the most sought after free agent ever....elite corner + rules changes to favor the offense=huge payday

So we've come to the conclusion that every team wants him...who's got the most coin and will be willing to spend it?

Ummm, what the hell were the Raiders thinking?

Maybe he should come to the Big Easy, we saw how much New Orleans needed him yesterday...

someone's going to break the bank for him and he may not really help his new team win any more games .....see Champ Bailey, Deangelo Hall, and Nate Clements...... just plugging in talent and praying it will help isn't wise. the player has to fit the scheme to be worth it.

  17. Nnamdi could help any team.....he's dangerous by himself.

Now put him on a team with an elite pass rush like the Giants......watch out.

No offense to them, but Hall and Clements are not anywhere close to Nnamdis level and to say a corner like Champ or Nnamdi doesnt help win games is straight up goobered.

Going to have to agree with AxionJackson, there is not a team in the NFL who doesnt get better with this addition.
