While he declared quarterback Robert Griffin III “good to go†for the season opener Monday against Philadelphia, Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said that starting strong safety Brandon Meriweather’s status remains uncertain.

Meriweather has spent the preseason working his way back from surgery last fall to repair a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, and last Thursday played in his first game since Nov. 18. But Shanahan said that Meriweather missed Monday’s practice with a groin injury, and that he can’t yet determine his availability for next week’s game.

“I really don’t know. He was a little bit sore today,†Shanahan said. “His groin was still a little bit tight. He did not practice today, and I’ll tell you more throughout the week.â€

It wasn’t clear how Meriweather’s knee responded to his first game action.
