The New Orleans Saints released veteran kicker John Kasay, according to a league source. That means Garrett Hartley will be the Saints kicker again in 2012.

Kasay, who is in his 22nd NFL season, remains as steady as they come among NFL kickers. But Hartley was always considered the slight front-runner in the competition after returning from a hip injury that sidelined him for all of last season. Hartley just needed to show some consistency during camp to prove he was healthy and could shake off the rust.

Hartley made 6 of 7 field goal attempts during the preseason, while Kasay made 2 of 4 (though one of the misses was the result of a bad hold).

I kinda hate to see it, though. I like Kasay. Oh well. As long as Hartley can make the kicks.
