A league source tells Alex Marvex of FoxSports.com that the New Orleans Saints asked NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to allow general manager Mickey Loomis to stay with the organization for Week 1 to help the franchise get through the effects of Hurricane Isaac.

The source said that Goodell was willing to push the start date of Loomis’ eight-game suspension back a week, but owner Tom Benson instead wanted Goodell to waive the one week. That request was denied, and it appears as if Loomis will serve his suspension as previously scheduled.

Damage to New Orleans isn’t nearly as severe as it was after Hurricane Katrina, but the team still has been forced to stay in hotels as it prepares for its season opener against the Washington Redskins. The organization wanted Loomis to help coordinate efforts to address employee needs.
