Defensive tackle Clinton McDonald has signed his one-year tender the Seahawks had offered him and will return to the team as the backup nosetackle.

McDonald has played two seasons in Seattle, coming to the Seahawks in the 2011 trade for cornerback Kelly Jennings. With three years of NFL experience, McDonald was a restricted free agent after Seattle tendered him a one-year qualifying offer of $1.3 million.

McDonald was free to negotiate with other teams, and even sign an offer sheet. At that point, Seattle would have had the right to match the offer and retain McDonald or receive a draft pick as compensation.
