Texas FS Kenny Vaccaro's Slow 40-Time Unlikely To Hurt Draft Stock

Kenny Vaccaro didn't help himself with a sluggish 40-yard dash time at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, but a lack of straight-line speed doesn't hurt safety prospects the way it might a cornerback.

The Texas safety clocked an official 4.63 seconds, a disappointing result, but Vaccaro looked good in the remaining drills.

At Texas, Vaccaro caused headaches for wideouts from the slot position. He showed plenty of speed staying with receivers on their routes and downfield, even if he's viewed as a player who must become more reliable in the back-half of the field.

With so many teams around the NFL searching for starting help or depth at the position, his slow time probably won't scare teams away from Vaccaro as the 2013 NFL Draft's top prospect at safety.

not a bad time, hes still not as good as mark barron was. hes only slightly ahead of some other safeties in the draft that will be second or third rounders

I do like Kenny a good deal. But he doesn't generate anywhere near the excitement for me that Berry and Barron and most of the other top safeties did in recent years.

This morning, Mike Fisher mentioned three players the Cowboys might take at 18. They are Vaccaro, Fluker, and Austin, the WR from West Virginia. However, there was some discussion about Vaccaro's speed, or lack of it.

In a Cover 2( and A Tampa 2 its actualy more if a Cover 3) speed isn't as important as diagnostic and ball skills

While I'd LOVE to have him, I think he'll be gone when the Cowboys pick at 18.
