The Lions fine players for talking about injuries to the media. Even a 12-year veteran like Jeff Backus won't challenge the edict. "Obviously, you know the team policy," said Backus, who sat out practice Sunday with a brace on his injured right thumb. "Any details of my thumb you can ask Coach (Jim) Schwartz." Schwartz wasn't any more forthcoming. "There are no updates," he said. "He's not long-term. He's just not practicing today and we will take it day by day." Backus injured the thumb on his first rep in one-on-one drills Saturday. Veteran Corey Hilliard is taking most of the first team reps at left tackle. "To me, personally, I don't like missing time," Backus said. "I don't like missing reps. I enjoy being out there with the guys and I enjoy getting the work in. So I am disappointed in that regard, but fortunately I've been in this system going on four years."
