UCLA fans can back off from their hopes that incoming freshman quarterback Brett Hundley will become the Bruins starter this season — or at least put those hopes on hold. During Pac-12 football media day interviews, UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel announced Tuesday that Hundley will undergo knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus that he injured playing basketball. “Hopefully, we’ll have him for the second half of (August) camp,†Neuheisel said. “I’m excited about the work he has put in thus far.†Returning Bruins starter Kevin Prince did not participate in spring drills while rehabbing offseason knee surgery. “We have to get better play from the quarterback position,†Neuheisel said. “By that, I mean more consistent, with fewer turnovers.†Hundley, from Chandler, Ariz., was rated the nation’s No. 2 quarterback recruit by Scout.com last winter. This signing of the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder was considered a coup for UCLA.
