The 49ers could see a change at wide receiver in Week 16. Will Quinton Patton get a shot?

People have been shouting for the 49ers to give Quinton Patton an opportunity, and he could have a chance on Monday Night Football. The 49ers have listed Mario Manningham as questionable, and two missed practices do note bode well for his playing chances. Manningham sat out Thursday and Saturday and was limited on Friday. This comes a week after he practiced all three days in limited fashion.

Manningham is looking like a game-time decision, although it wouldn't surprise me if we heard earlier in the day that he is not going to play. Whatever the case, we'll know no later than 90 minutes before game time (around 4:10 p.m.). If Manningham can't play, Quinton Patton is pretty much assured of being active for the first time since Week 4.

Patton had some big plays in the preseason, but was quiet in his four active games. He had one reception for no yards before a foot injury sidelined him. It'd be cool to see him potentially make an impact as the 49ers try and work their way into the end zone, but can we really expect much? He and Kap seemed to have a bit of a connection during the preseason, but given what we've seen the last couple weeks, will that matter?

Since Michael Crabtree's return to the lineup, he, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis have been the go-to guys. The loss of Bruce Miller could open some shorter work, but that seems more likely to impact the running backs and tight ends. On the other hand, if the 49ers switch to more three-receiver, one-back sets, maybe the passing game opens up further? I really have no idea what to make of the game plan with Miller out of the picture. Do the 49ers try and simply replace Miller with Dixon, or do they open things up?
