Week 4 was about exciting of a week of football as one could ever expect.

And with that excitement came a few unexpected performances by some players who are sure to be found on your waiver wire, regardless of your league format—some exceptions may apply.

In regard to a few previous WR waiver wire mentions, Bears receiver Dane Sanzenbacher came back down to earth in WK 4 catching only one pass for 16 yards, Broncos receiver Eric Decker caught a team high seven passes, despite only being good for 48 yards and Titans receiver Nate Washington had his hands full with Browns corner Joe Haden (as I predicted) catching only two passes for 62 yards on just four total targets.

This week, however, has a few interesting mentions—so let’ get started.

Matt Hasselbeck – QB – Tennessee Titans

Still think this guy isn’t worth a squirt? Well think again, kids.

Matt Hasselbeck has thrown 8 TDs to only 3 INTs and has shown he is the real deal in fantasy football.

On any given day, you can give this guy the nod and expect nothing but fantasy gold, and if you pick him up as your primary backup—and there are plenty of you out there currently WITHOUT a QB2—you can easily consider him a solid backup QB on your roster.

His availability is still pretty high in most leagues, with a ESPN league average ownership of 27.4%—that ownership percentage spiked in one week by nearly 10 percent, so hurry.

Steve Breaston – WR – Kansas City Chiefs

Breaston isn’t a guy who is going to be easily found in some formats, but in other formats, he is a diamond in the rough currently emerging.

Breaston was originally brought in to be the complimentary deep-ball threat, opposite of Dwayne Bowe, but he has maturated more into a possession receiver with down-field benefits—perfect for a waiver wire acquisition in PPR leagues.

The Chiefs are expected to play from behind in a lot of contests this year, and when moving the ball, a possession receiver is the number one target which means Breaston has huge upside moving forward.

Isaac Redman – RB – Pittsburgh Steelers

Rashard Mendenhall left Sunday’s game with an apparent hamstring injury, and if the injury keeps Mendenhall out for an extended period of time, Isaac Redman becomes a tasty waiver wire consideration.

When he is given the chance, Redman can be a back who—even in a time share—show himself to be a nice spotty producer for those of you hurting at RB in deeper leagues.

Of course we’ll have to wait and see, but for now, he seems to be a nice grab for the interim.

Ryan Torain – RB – Washington Redskins

It was very unexpected when coach Shanahan put in Ryan Torain at the 7:07 mark of the second quarter, and it was even further unexpected to see that he only needed three-quarters of a game and 20 snaps to muster up 135 yards and a single touchdown.

The interesting issue here is that the Redskins have been dealing with Tim Hightower’s stamina issues—oh, did I mention the guy almost got benched last week and is a little banged up?

Not to mention the staff feels that Roy Helu is not yet ready to shoulder a starting role.

Coach Shanahan was non-committal as to whether or not Torain would continue to contribute on offense, and that is probably because they face division rival Philadelphia next week.

Keeping a “hush-hush as possible” approach is going to be this week’s mantra as the Redskins have been catapulted into first place—no sense in letting the cat out of the bag against the wounded birds, that’s for sure.

Still, with everything mentioned, Torain may be a decent insurance grab in deeper leagues for the interim, and possibly for the long-term.

Clay Harbor – TE – Philadelphia Eagles

I’m going to go out on a limb here, so stick with me.

The Eagles have previously said that they wanted to see more work out of Clay Harbor, and he responded in kind with three catches for 55 yards and a single touchdown.

The Birds are enjoying Brent Celek as an extra blocker, and quite frankly, they need him more a a blocker than a pass-catching TE with that embarrassing O-Line.

But they still need a pass-catching TE in some capacity as well.

Look, I don’t believe this guy is going to set the world on fire anytime soon, but he is—at the very least—worth a hard look going forward, and if you are one of the richer fantasy owners with an open roster spot, he certainly deserves a small stint on the roster.

The Eagles could make good on a desire that many forgot about over the past two weeks.

Stay Tuned for Greg Brosh’s collected mentions, and feel free to leave your questions below.

QUARTERBACKS

Tarvaris Jackson – SEA (5% owned): Jackson had a career day against a suspect Falcons pass rush, throwing for 319 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. We’ve seen flashes of this type of play from Jackson before, with a big letdown coming the week after. I don’t see this time being any different. With the Giants coming up in Week Five, I don’t see Jackson being worth anything more than a desperation QB2 in 16-team leagues or a low-end QB2 in leagues that start two quarterbacks. But even then, Jackson is too inconsistent.

Andy Dalton – CIN (10% owned): Dalton has his ups and downs, like Jackson, but Dalton seems to be improving in small doses every week. He led a Bengals comeback in Week Four against the Bills, with 298 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. In the right matchups, Dalton has shown he can control the offense as evidenced by his 300+ yards and two scores in Week Two against the Broncos. Dalton is turning into a strong dynasty option, but is still nothing more than a low-end QB2 in redraft leagues. He is sure to have more big games, just don’t expect them every week going forward.

Colts McCoy – CLE (33% owned): When I looked at the box scores last night, I was just as shocked as other owners when I saw that McCoy had thrown 61 passes against the Titans. He’s only completing 58.1 percent of his passes. But with two multi-score games under his belt so far, McCoy should be a viable QB2 in larger leagues if he is still on the waiver wire.

Charlie Batch – PIT: I don’t even have to list Batch’s ownership percentage since it’s at zero, but he may be called upon soon. There is a report that Ben Roethlisberger has a left foot sprain, which leaves his status for Week Five unclear. Batch is only worth a look in the very deepest of leagues. The Steelers’ offense definitely takes a step back even further if Batch is forced into the starting lineup.

Curtis Painter – IND (3% owned): Even though Painter threw two touchdowns and no interceptions, his 13-for-30 passing wasn’t all that great and he wasn’t as good as the stat box would lead you to believe. He could make everyone else around him better, but Painter still isn’t worth a roster spot.

Matt Moore – MIA: It was recently reported that Chad Henne suffered a separated left (non-throwing) shoulder injury against the Chargers. The Dolphins have a bye this weekend. But considering Tony Sparano is on the hot-seat, he could decide to go with Moore to spark some life into a win-less team.

RUNNING BACKS

Stevan Ridley – NE (13% owned): Ridley followed up his Week Three breakout performance by racking up 97 rushing yards and his first touchdown of the season in the win over the Raiders. BenJarvus Green-Ellis also found the end zone, but was outplayed by Ridley for the second-straight game. BGE figures to keep goal-line duties, but Ridley should continue to see an expanded role as the weeks go by. He’s looking like a strong flex option.

Roy Helu – WAS (31% owned): Like Ray mentioned above, I still don’t think Helu is ready to take on the lead-back role, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take it before the end of the year. Ryan Torain is clearly the No. 1 waiver-wire option this week. But if I had room to sit on him, I’d take Helu if I missed out on the Torain sweepstakes. Torain isn’t anything special. And as we have already seen, he’s an injury waiting to happen. Helu has a 5.3 ypc average through four games. And if I know Mike Shanahan, he’s biding his time before he can let Helu loose for a majority of the carries.

Michael Bush – OAK (47% owned): Bush is only owned in 47 percent of leagues so far? Seriously?!? Even as a standalone fantasy option, Bush still has value as the main goal-line back behind Darren McFadden. After scoring a touchdown in three-straight games, Bush should be on all rosters in leagues of 14 teams and higher. He did suffer a late-game ankle injury against the Patriots, but it doesn’t sound too serious as of now.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Jacoby Jones – HOU (24% owned): CBS Sports’ Mike Freeman is reporting that Andre Johnson could miss a couple weeks due to a hamstring injury. Johnson and non-Johnson owners should pick Jones up immediately. He should have a much bigger role if/when Johnson is out. If it turns out that Johnson’s hamstring injury isn’t as bad as initially feared and he can play, we’d leave Jones be. He went without a catch against the Steelers Sunday.

Sidney Rice – SEA (79% owned): It’s not shocking to see Rice still not owned in 21 percent of most leagues. I had figured Week Three was an anomoly, but Rice is clearly 100 percent recovered from hip problems that had plagued him last year. Through just two weeks, Rice has eleven receptions, 188 receiving yards and a touchdown. With a shaky Giants defense coming up, Rice could be worthy of a flex spot.

Laurent Robinson – DAL (2% owned): I’ve been high on Robinson going all the way back to his days as a Falcon, but injuries have plagued him for years. With Miles Austin (hamstring) out, Robinson has made the most of his time as a Cowboy after his seven catch/116 yard performance against the Lions. The Cowboys have a bye this week and Austin is expected back Week Six. But since hamstrings are tricky, especially with wide receivers, Robinson could have some future value if Austin suffers some sort of setback once he is in game action.

Victor Cruz – NYG (33% owned): Cruz started the Week-Four game against the Cardinals as the slot receiver, but he quickly supplanted Mario Manningham as the No. 2 across from Hakeem Nicks in two-receiver sets for the last three quarters. We aren’t sure if Manningham’s demotion was just for Sunday’s game, or if Cruz will start going forward. Cruz deserves the promotion if the Giants decide the latter. Through two games, he is averaging 4.5 catches a game, 104 receiving yards and had two score against the Eagles last week. Even if he doesn’t start, Cruz’s upside makes him worth a flex option.

Preston Parker – TB (3% owned): Parker reeled in five receptions for 70 yards and a score in the win over the Colts, but I am still weary of his consistency. Outside of Week Three, Parker has averaged between 6-7 targets the other three weeks, but I would only take a chance on him in larger PPR leagues.

TIGHT ENDS

Kevin Boss – OAK (4% owned): Boss may not be a huge fantasy asset, but his four-catch/78 yard game against the Patriots is worth mentioning. He’ll never be the pass-catching talent that Zach Miller was and Boss’ blocking-first role will never get him any more value than a low-end TE2.

Jared Cook – TEN (28% owned): Cook only caught two passes, one for a touchdown, but he did get six targets, which makes him a worthy pickup. With Kenny Britt out for the year, Matt Hasselbeck will have to lean on someone other than Nate Washington. Cook is a TE2 with upside.

With the 2011 fantasy football season in full forced motion, it’s time to change the approach toward waiver wire reporting. Owners who are actively shopping their wires, don’t just want any name available, they want impact players who are going to have an affect in fantasy football down the road—like Torrey Smith.

Today I have just a few players who you are not only sure to find on you waiver wire, but you can guarantee they will have some sort of positive impact on your team.

Let’s take a look at who I have in store, and after my selections, be sure to see who our own Greg Brosh has to talk about.

Nate Washington – WR – TEN: Washington was already a name that only a select few were talking about, but his value is certainly set to skyrocket after the injury news surrounding Kenny Britt.

Before today, Washington was already a viable WR 3 scoop off the wire as quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been consistently showing interest in him (13 catches for 166 yards, 12.6 AVG) but despite those two games, Washington remained virtually untouched. In his Week 3 performance against the Broncos, Washington continued to shine catching 8 balls for 92 yards (11.5 AVG) and a single TD.

UPDATED – Monday September 26th: Kenny Britt is being reported as missing the remainder of the season, as the team confirmed he did in fact tear both the MCL and ACL according to Jim Wyatt on Twitter. Washington now becomes the number one receiver in Tennessee, and if the guy is already averaging 7 catches, 86 yards receiving for a 12.3 YPC as a WR 2, just imagine what he is going to do as the primary target.

Victor Cruz – WR – NYG: Wide receivers are hard to come by in deeper leagues, but Victor Cruz could become just the guy you’ve been looking for—assuming you ARE in the market of course.

The interesting aspect to Cruz that I think you need to consider is the fact that he was the forgotten man on the field against a very good Eagles defense, and that was in a fill-in role as the WR 2 for Mario Manningham. Once Manningham returns, Cruz will move to the WR 3 slot, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll lose value.

Cruz made a strong case for himself in an offense that is hungry for other play-makers to step up, and Cruz is definitely worth a look in those deeper formats.

If that’s not enough for ya, Cruz was targeted five times, caught three of them for 110 yards and two touchdowns against those Eagles…so imagine what this guy is going to do against Arizona, Seattle, Buffalo, Miami and New England—five of the worst passing defenses in the league, all of which are his next opponents in order.

Brandon Jacobs – RB – NYG: At first glance, this mention might seem a bit odd, but keep in mind we have to take into account ALL the types of leagues that are out there, and Brandon Jacobs is a guy who is available in nearly every Yahoo! league, and has been consistently averaging just around 9 or 10 points each week.

Jacobs enjoys a time-share with Ahmad Bradshaw, but the goal in New York is to get Bradshaw going and have him get the long gains early, plug in Jacobs for the scores in the red-zone, and in short yardage passing situations.

But Jacobs also brunts slightly m,ore work in the second half, than Bradshaw as well. No matter how you slice this one, if you are dealing with multiple injuries on your roster and need a RB, Jacobs is certainly worth a look, especially if you compete in Yahoo! formats.

Torrey Smith – WR – BAL: Smith has finally done enough to convince the coaching staff he has come around, and after the injury to Lee Evans, Smith got his shot and excelled against the Rams, torching them on five catches for 152 yards and three TDs.

This is more like it! Smith was suppose to start the season, but concerns over his dropsies in camp and preseason made the coaches believe he needed more time. Whether or not they were right doesn’t matter because if this is any indication of what is to come from Smith, then the initial scouting report on him will show itself to be dead on.

Since it has only been one game, he is more valuable as an add in deeper formats (since he was a slated starter), but if you can, add him to your watch list for another week, and if he goes off again, of even produces half of what he did this week, pull the trigger.

Quick Hits on Previous Waiver Wire Considerations: If you haven’t already added them, Lions receiver Titus Young, Broncos receiver Eric Decker, and Bills receiver David Nelson are all worthy of long-term occupancy on your roster, should you have room, while rising players Dane Sanzenbacher (WR – CHI), Michael Jenkins (WR – MIN) and James Casey (FB/TE – HOU) are all showing huge promise, but haven’t yet done enough to consider them permanent adds.

Sanzenbacher will probably emerge from that list first if you are interested, but Jay Cutler has just looked awful through three games, and unless Cutler improves, his play will limit the ceiling on Sanzenbacher. Michael Jenkins is in the same position, and James Casey is likely to gain some notoriety moving forward, and could be a nice add for those of you hurting at TE.

That’s it from me, kids. Stay tuned for Greg’s add, coming up shortly.

QUARTERBACKS
Vince Young – PHI: Michael Vick wound up breaking bones in his right, non-throwing, hand in the tough loss against division-rival Giants. The good thing is that the injury didn’t happen to his throwing hand. The bad news, however, is that there is a report that Vick could miss up to 3-4 weeks. Mike Kafka looked awful in his second-straight relief effort, throwing two costly picks. So if he is healthy enough from his hamstring injury, Vince Young could get the call for Week Four against the 49ers. Kafka showed he still isn’t ready to be an NFL quarterback.

Update: Vick has a deep bone bruise in his hand. Not a break. He still remains very questionable for Week Four.

Colt McCoy – CLE: McCoy had a strong Week-Four performance against a weak Dolphins secondary, throwing for 210 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. McCoy isn’t an every-week starter because of his weak arm and the talent around him still not there yet. But in two-quarterback leagues, he could be a decent option. He’s averaging 211 passing yards a game.

Curtis Painter – IND: There is belief that Kerry Collins may have suffered a concussion against the Steelers Sunday night, but it appears that Indy might make a change at quarterback even if Collins is good enough to play in Week Four. Painter didn’t look all that good in relief, going 5-of-11 passing for 60 yards. I wouldn’t look at Painter no matter how desperate I was. The Colts should have free agent David Garrard’s number on speed dial.

RUNNING BACKS
Dexter McCluster – KC: As expected, Thomas Jones’ 2011 debut as the starter was dreadful. He averaged a meager 2.2 yards on the ground against the Chargers and has only been able to muster up 2.6 through three games. McCluster, however, showed great burst, a willingness to hit holes and take hits. In a standard PPR league, McCluster racked up 10 fantasy points with 45 rushing yards and five catches for 17, which isn’t bad for a desperation flex option. Jones will continue to start, but McCluster is a safe option if you are in absolute dire need of help. Keep in mind, though, that some league sites only count McCluster as a receiver.

Daniel Thomas – MIA: It turns out Thomas is the real deal. After a solid breakout showing in Week Two, Thomas followed that up with 95 rushing yards and added three catches for 27 yards and a touchdown. I just looked at Yahoo leagues and, surprisingly, Thomas is only owned in 67% of the leagues so far. I expect that number to increase by the end of this week. Reggie Bush (36 total yards) is showing he just doesn’t have what it takes to be a starting NFL running back.

Stevan Ridley – NE: Ridley finally showed us what he can do if given the chance after rushing seven times for 44 yards in the loss to the Bills. After BenJarvus Green-Ellis’ disappointing first half, he slowly started giving up touches to Ridley in the second half. Ridley might not be someone who will put up fantasy points every week. But if you can afford to pick him up and stash him away for another week or two, he could be worth the wait. He is clearly more talented than the “law firm.”

Kendall Hunter – SF: Frank Gore said he isn’t sure if he will be available to play the Eagles in Week Four after “tweaking” his ankle in the second quarter against the Bengals. Hunter could be a decent addition and a flex option against an Eagles Defense that is close to last in yards given up on the ground this year. He couldn’t be any worse than Gore, who has failed to top 60 yards rushing in any of the last three games.

Jonathan Stewart – CAR: Stewart put up another flex-quality game in the team’s first win over the Jaguars, putting up 85 total yards and catching three receptions. He split carries evenly with DeAngelo Williams (10), but averaged 5.9 yards a carry compared to Williams’ 1.8. Stewart likely will never have that breakout games because Williams is in the way. But through three weeks of action, Stewart is clearly the better of the two. The re-signing of Williams in the offseason is looking like a huge mistake.

LaDainian Tomlinson – NYJ: Shonn Greene might be the starter and the main ball carrier, but LT is still getting it done through the air, catching a team high 116 yards off five receptions. LT is only worth owning in deeper PPR leagues because he is inconsistent. He only caught one pass for seven yards in Week Two.

Willis McGahee – DEN: Many owners opted to keep McGahee on the waiver wire with the news that Knowshon Moreno was healthy enough to return to action for Sunday’s game against the Titans. There was just one big problem; he wasn’t, but was still active for the game anyway. Moreno didn’t see a single snap Sunday, leading to McGahee’s first receiving touchdown of the season. Moreno could be ready by Week Four, but McGahee still figures to get a decent amount of work, despite chipping in just 52 yards on 22 carries. McGahee is still only a desperation flex option at best. His legs are shot.

Ryan Grant – GB: Grant earned some flex consideration after his big 92 yard rushing day against the Bears. On the flipside, James Starks managed just five yards on eleven carries and didn’t look very confident when given the ball. It didn’t help that he also lost a fumble in the fourth quarter. Grant could be someone to look at against the Broncos in Week Four.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Sidney Rice – SEA: Rice blew up in his 2011 debut, racking up eight catches out of ten targets for 109 yards in the win over the Cardinals. Keep in mind that Tarvaris Jackson is still the starting quarterback and the Cardinals secondary has been awful this year. So while you should pick Rice up, temper expectations.

Steve Smith – PHI: Smith could be thrust into the starting role for Week Four’s game against the 49ers after Jeremy Maclin injured his hamstring against the Giants. Maclin’s backup Riley Cooper also suffered a concussion, which would leave Smith as the possible starter across from DeSean Jackson. Many owners will look at Jason Avant instead, but I believe the team would rather leave him in the slot and use Smith and Jackson on the outside. Just remember that Smith’s value, if he does start, would be capped with Vick out for multiple weeks.

Update: Maclin is currently day-to-day after it was revealed that his hamstring injury is not as bad as previously reported. Still questionable for Week Four.

Donald Jones – BUF: Jones is another guy to look at only in deeper leagues. While he tied with Stevie Johnson with ten targets and led the team with 101 yards on five receptions against the Patriots, his value will be inconsistent every week. He only totaled 27 yards over the first two weeks.

TIGHT ENDS
Randy McMichael – SD: Antonio Gates reportedly tore the scar tissue in his plantar fascia, so he could be facing multiple weeks of inactivity. If so, McMichael could be someone worth looking at. Against the Chiefs, McMichael managed four receptions for 51 yards. Since the Chargers’ play-calling calls for a lot of use out of the tight end position, McMichael could be serviceable if your waiver wire is picked dry at the tight end position.

Week One is never usually a good gauge to say whether or not your fantasy players are going to have a great season, or fall flat on their faces. Week Two is a bit premature as well, but we are now starting to see how players are falling in line with their respective offenses. Week Three is the week to start looking over your rosters and possibly adding new talent that is still on the waiver wire, while trimming the fat and dumping guys that simply aren’t living up to the standards we set on them in the preseason.

Here are a few risers and fallers through the first two weeks of the season. Like I wrote last week, saying Tom Brady is a riser is taking the easy way out of having to do some research and digging down deep when finding those less-than-obvious players who have outperformed or performed well below their preseason value. While I would love to give Cam Newton more love after another huge performance, I’d like to reserve his spot for another deserving playing who wasn’t listed last week.

RISERS
Quarterbacks
Matt Hasselbeck – Tennessee: Many of us had Hasselbeck on the scrap heap coming off a couple down years in Seattle. But it seems that Hass has found new life when he is actually surrounded by strong weapons, something he didn’t have much of in his last year as a Seahawk. Through two weeks, Hasselbeck has averaged 310.5 passing yards a game, with three touchdown passes to two interceptions. One of the biggest reasons for his success is the offensive line giving him a chance to throw. He could slowly move up the fantasy football rankings as the weeks go on.

——————————————————————————————

Running Backs
Ben Tate – Houston: Arian Foster owners be damned. Tate has stolen much of his thunder over the last two weeks. And just when we thought Foster owners were safe going into Week Two, his pesky hamstring tightedn up, allowing Tate to rack up yet another 100+ yard day against the Dolphins. With Tate playing strong, it sounds like the Texans have no problems sitting Foster for as long as possible until he is completely healthy.

——————————————————————————————

Wide Receivers
Deion Branch – New England: Branch seemed to have found the fountain of youth. His 222 receiving yards is second only to Mike Wallace. And while a touchdown would be nice, Branch is clearly creating great chemistry with Tom Brady. This could change, however, if Chad Ochocinco ever picks up the offense. But for right now, Branch is playing lights out.

——————————————————————————————

Tight Ends
Dustin Keller – NY Jets: It’s amazing that with all the weapons at Mark Sanchez’s disposal, that Keller is still getting his fair share of targets. Keller clocked in his first 100-yard game in Week Two, while also adding his second touchdown of the season. The biggest plus from Week Two was Keller caught all six of his targets, which was a team high. As long as Sanchez has confidence in Keller, he will be a weapon this year.

——————————————————————————————

FALLERS
Quarterbacks
Matt Cassel – Kansas City: Cassel’s Week-One performance against the Bills was bad, but his zero touchdowns and three interceptions against the Detroit on Sunday was atrocious. It doesn’t get any better now that Jamaal Charles is out for the year after tearing his knee. He was one of the only bright spots.

——————————————————————————————

Running Backs
Shonn Greene – NY Jets: I really thought this was going to be Greene’s year after a disappointing start to 2010, but so far Greene’s play has been anything but promising. Through two games, he’s averaging a measly 2.9 yards a carry and is still giving way work to LaDainian Tomlinson on third downs. Greene finally scored a touchdown in Week Two and he has been given the majority of the snaps. But with center Nick Mangold out with a high ankle sprain, Greene might continue to plod along.

——————————————————————————————

Wide Receivers
Percy Harvin – Minnesota: Harvin’s 2011 has been dismal so far, but a lot of it isn’t his fault. Donovan McNabb isn’t the answer at quarterback and the Vikings’ shaky offensive line hasn’t done much to improve the passing game. In fact, Harvin was only on the field for 30 of the 68 offensive snaps in Week Two, which is ridiculous for a guy who is clearly the team’s best weapon in the passing game. Those who took Harvin as a WR2 are in for a world of hurt if the coaching staff doesn’t make changes. There is absolutely no reason Harvin shouldn’t be on the field for 95% of the snaps.

——————————————————————————————

Tight Ends
Dallas Clark – Indianapolis: Much like Austin Collie’s falling status from last week, Clark is the product of an offense that doesn’t have much of an identity. Mainly used as a blocker, Clark has racked up only eight catches for 71 yards. As long as Kerry Collins is the quarterback, Clark won’t see much time as a pass catcher. He is going to have his hands full with the Steelers in Week Three.

Your usual fantasy guru Ray Tannock is taking a break from the rankings this week, so I am here to give you the lowdown on what’s going to go down in Week Two. We had a lot of surprises at quarterback in Week One. The biggest one, obviously, being Cam Newton’s breakout performance against the Cardinals. Things should settle down this weekend, but we could have a surprise or two that pop up out of nowhere.

Before I start, I would like to congratulate Ray for coming in first place in Fantasy Football Crystal Ball’s Week One Accuracy Score for Quarterbacks last week. Way to go RAY!!!!!!!

Below are my quarterback rankings going into Week Two.

TOP FIVE WEEK-TWO MATCHUPS (MUST START)

1. Aaron Rogers (GB) @ CAR: Is there any reason to not put Rodgers at No. 1 this week? I know Tom Brady had that huge game against Miami, but my money is on Rodgers to lead the charge against a Carolina Defense that gave up 309 yards and two scores against Kevin Kolb.

2. Tom Brady (NE) vs. SD: Putting Brady any lower than No. 2 would be ridiculous. The guy simply doesn’t stop at putting up big games. Hell, he even made Deion Branch look like a stud Monday night. The Chargers Defense will come back down to Earth after facing Donovan McNabb in Week One.

3. Michael Vick (PHI) @ ATL: Vick didn’t throw for very many yards (187) against the Rams, but his two passing touchdowns and 98 rushing yards made up for it. Vick showed he still has plenty left in the legs. He will need that in, what figures to be, a very emotional game against his old team the Falcons in their house.

4. Matthew Stafford (DET) vs. KC: Stafford had a huge Week One, throwing for three touchdowns against the Bucs. Kansas City didn’t have an answer for Ryan Fitzpatrick. And after losing Eric Berry to a torn ACL, Stafford should have his way with the Chiefs’ secondary.

5. Philip Rivers (SD) @ NE: The Chargers’ receivers were held in check by the Vikings, but Rivers still had a huge fantasy day, using both Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews in the passing game. If Chad Henne can look like a Pro Bowler against the Patriots D, Rivers should have a field day in Foxboro.

Kevin Kolb had an excellent regular-season debut.

This is a great tool to use if you are still looking for a last minute waiver wire pickup before you have to turn your list in to your league. It will also help if waivers process and there is a guy who flew totally under the radar who is still out there that made the list below. And yes, it does happen a lot!!!! It shouldn’t be a total surprise to see Patriots QB Tom Brady at the top of the list after his incredible performance Monday night against the Dolphins

So without further ado, here is Week One’s top 50 players:

Week One is now officially in the books and I do have to say that this opening to the regular season had more surprises than usual. While some owners were disappointed and some have smiles on their faces this Tuesday, I want to stress that we are only through one week of the regular season. I have already gotten many emails asking if owners should pick up duds who looked good and dropping studs who got off to a slow start. To those owners who want to dismantle their teams, don’t jump the gun. If you dump a guy who you drafted high after only one week, I can guarantee you that it will come back to haunt you. And to those eyeballing scrubs after one game, look away because there is a good chance that player will never come close to doing what he did again for the rest of the season.

On that note, here are some players whose value has risen and fallen after Week One action. I am going with players who aren’t your GRADE-A studs. Anyone can list Tom Brady as a riser.

RISERS:

Cam Newton – QB – CAR vs. Arizona:
24-of-37 passing, 422 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
You didn’t think I could possibly start this without mentioning THE biggest surprise of Week One did you? Newton looked good in the pocket, didn’t lock into one target and had full command of the offense right from the get go. And his stats did not come in garbage time as the Panthers were in the hunt for most of the game against the Cardinals. Carolina is grinning from ear to ear after proving all the naysayers wrong when they took him No. 1 overall. While I am still skeptical Newton can be an every-week fantasy starter, he could be a solid option in the right matchups and as a bye-week filler.

Beanie Wells – RB – ARI vs. Carolina:
90 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, four catches, twelve receiving yards
Like the title says, Beanie Wells is for real. His 90 yards were great, but what was even better was the fact that he was used on third downs. His four receptions were a nice bonus for a player who was never known for being much of a pass catcher. Now that the offense has their passing game back on track, look for Wells to reap the benefits and become a strong bounce-back candidate.

Steve Smith – WR – CAR vs. Arizona:
Eight catches, 178 yards, two touchdowns
I’m probably taking the easy route by picking another Panther, but I simply can’t get past the fact that Smith continues to keep chugging away in the fantasy world. At 5’9′/185, receivers his size just don’t last as long as some of the bigger guys. And the fact that he put up eight catches, 178 yards and two touchdowns at age 32 is remarkable. As long as Cam Newton can continue to grow, Smith has a great chance at getting another 1000-yard receiving season.

Fred Davis – TE – WAS vs. NYG:
Five catches, 105 yards
Davis was always one of the more athletic tight ends in the league, he just never had much of a chance to show it because of Chris Cooley. That’s all going to change this year. After catching five passes (Six targets) for 105 yards, Mike Shanahan has already announced that the Redskins will use more two-tight end sets heavily going forward. I don’t consider Davis a bonafide starting fantasy tight end yet, but his arrow is definitely pointing up.

FALLERS:

Donovan McNabb – QB – MIN vs. SD:
7-of-15 passing, 39 yards, one touchdown, one interception
I’m not sure if McNabb is just that bad or if the Chargers Defense is that good, but McNabb’s stats were beyond bad. It didn’t help that left tackle Charlie Johnson was hideous. I never had McNabb pegged as a QB1. But after last weekend, I don’t even think he’s roster worthy. While I could chalk this up to Week-One bad luck, I can’t help but think that McNabb isn’t going to make it all sixteen games as the starter. Christian Ponder is knocking at the door.

Frank Gore – RB – SF vs. SEA:
59 rushing yards, three catches, nineteen receiving yards
The 49ers gave Gore 25 touches, but he was inept at the goal line. He also looked fast and showed no slowness from the hip injury he suffered last year. Still, Gore’s Week-One performance should have owners who took him high, like myself, worried. He might not be an RB1 anymore.

Austin Collie – WR – IND vs. HOU:
Zilch, Nada, Not even a catch
Owners who expect Collie to bounce back in Week Two are going to be in for a rude awakening. The Colts rarely used three-receiver sets during Kerry Collins‘ first regular season game as a Colt. And because of this and the team’s new-found need for a running game, don’t expect to see much of Collie this year. I wouldn’t outright drop him after one week, but I also wouldn’t start him this week against the Browns.

Jared Cook – TE – TEN vs. JAX:
One catch, seven yards
So much for the idea of Cook being a bigger part of the offense. Even after Matt Hasselbeck threw 34 passes, Cook was mainly used as a blocker. He also lost snaps to Craig Stevens. As of now, Cook should either stay on your bench or stay on the waiver wire.
