With the 2012 NFL Draft only a couple days away, we have recently completed our full 32-team Mock Draft list for your viewing pleasure! The lockout last year may have shortened the 2011 offseason. But for us Fantasy Knuckleheads a lot happened in a short period of time. T.O. didn’t get signed, Moss didn’t play, Kenny Britt got hurt, who I like as a 2012 Sleeper, and MJD proved an ACL tear can’t stop him. Now enter the 2012 NFL Draft. A time when teams blow a chunk of cash on prospects that never pan out, and fans get to express what they think is their teams needs. Well, Fantasy Knuckleheads is here to help you explore the players your team may draft, how we feel about the draft prospects and so much more from our “fan experts”.

If I showed you the next page you would have seen the last of 11 week 3 match-ups which was a $9 win in a heads up expert only game. Expert only means you get less $$$ to play with. Expert get $55,000 - standard gets $60,000 and Beg. get $65,000

Here is what I do to find the excellent match ups headed into the week and rank them accordingly.

1. Get the top 10 or so fantasy points allowed by position (listed below)
2. Find the obvious studs with great match ups (high dollar value guys on fanduel)
3. Find the “flex starts” with great match ups that present high upside (low dollar value guys on fanduel)
4. TOP 10 Teams allowing the most fantasy points to opposing QB’s this year.

You can use this method to determine who is a great weekly fantasy play based on match up, helpful for you guys without a backup for Antonio Gates, more on that later.

I’ll start at the Quarterback position.

Eli Manning comes to mind over the next several weeks, this week he face the Cardinals who allow the 8th most fantasy points to Quarterbacks.

TOP 10 Teams allowing the most fantasy points to opposing QB’s this year.

1. New England Patriots vs. QB – 1,163 yards – 6 TD
2. Green Bay Packers vs. QB – 1,153 yards – 6 TD
3. Oakland Raiders vs. QB 937 yards 6 TD
4. Miami Dolphins vs. QB 957 yards 8 TD
5. St. Louis Rams vs. QB 799 yards 7 TD
6. Buffalo Bills vs. QB 829 yards 7 TD

QB Match-ups to exploit in week 4 are:

• Jason Campbell faces the New England Patriots who, as you see above, are allow a sever amount of fantasy stats to opposing QB’s.
• Rex Grossman AKA “Sexy Rexy” have a juicy match-up against St. Louis Rams who rank 5th in most fantasy points allowed.
• Andy Dalton should bounce back this week versus the Bills, who rank 6th in points allowed to opposing QB’s.
• Eli Manning comes to mind over the next several weeks, this week he face the Cardinals who allow the 8th most fantasy points to Quarterbacks. Excellent Value on Fanduel.

The obvious starter with exceptional match ups:

• Tom Brady obviously.. Oakland just sweetens the pot.
• Phillip Rivers is another no brain-er with a sweet match-up versus Miami who ranks 4th in most points allowed.

Either Cedric Benson (if allowed to play) or Bernard Scott should have success this week versus Buffalo however, I'd only start Bernard Scott in PPR leagues as the Bengals will have to play from behind.

RB Match-ups to exploit in week 4 are:

• Dexter McCluster faces the Vikings BUT WAIT they got back some players in Week 3 and picked up the run stuff. Only consider McCluster in PPR leagues as a strong FLEX.
• BenJarvus Green-Ellis / Stevan Ridley are both good flexes this week versus the porous Raiders. I like Ridley this week to get plenty of chances as New England burns the clock holding a lead.
• Frank Gore could easily bounce back this week against the Eagles who are allowing the most points to RB’s this year.
• Tim Hightower should toss the Rams salad this week, they rank 4th in points allowed.
• LeGarrette Blount should have a bounce back week against Indy, but don’t keep your hopes to high.
• Either Cedric Benson (if allowed to play) or Bernard Scott should have success this week versus Buffalo however, I’d only start Bernard Scott in PPR leagues as the Bengals will have to play from behind.

The obvious starter with exceptional match up:

• A. Peterson is an obvious start any week but this week is exceptional as he faces the Chief’s who can’t stop tumbleweed from blowing across the field.

WR Match-ups to exploit in week 4 are:

• Brandon Lloyd and Eric Decker should have a good day against Green Bay who allow the 2nd most fantasy points to WR so far this year.
• Oakland has some nice flex plays lined up for you this week but gamble at your own risk here, while someone in Oakland is going to have a great day it’s hard to predict. I expect the Pats to stack the box and force Campbell to pass, Denarius Moore is poised for a break out game.
• Santana Moss WILL have a big day versus the Rams. I don’t think the Rams will move the ball on offense and Washington will be able to air it out versus their weak secondary who ranks 3rd in points allowed.
• Minnesota has a possible deep sleeper in PPR formats, deep leagues only, Michael Jenkins is on the rise as a nice match-ups based flex starter and this week he gets the Chiefs who rank 11th in points allowed.

More obvious starters with great match-ups

• Larry Fitzgerald versus NYG
• Vincent Jackson, especially if Gates returns to the line-up. Miami allows the 4th most points to WR.
• Hakeem Nicks / Mario Manningham or Victor Cruz depending on Manninghams status – Arizona allows the 9th most fantasy points to WR.

Greg Olsen has a great match-up versus the Bears, nice flex play in your a Antonio Gates owner in a time of need.

• Marcedes Lewis is a deep sleeper in DEEP leagues – he faces the Saints who can’t cover TE and you can bank that the Saints will score a lot of points.
• Randy McMichael (If Antonio Gates sits out) has a DECENT match-up versus Miami, but they’re ranked number one in points allowed due to the thrashing they took in week 1 versus the Pats.
• Jermaine Gresham is another Antonio Gates weekly flex replacement – the Bungles will have to air it out versus the Bills who rank 10th in points allowed.

More obvious starters with great match-ups this week:

• Jimmy Graham get the Jags who have trouble with tall TE’s.
• Scott Chandler gets the Cincinnati Bengals and they can’t cover TE either, rankings 6th in points allowed. Chandler has a TD in every game this year, it won’t stop this week.

Bouns Round for Kickers – top 10 teams allowing the most Kicker Fantasy Points

1. Cleveland Browns vs. K 10.7 points allowed
2. Kansas City Chiefs vs. K 10.3 this week they face Ryan Longwell
3. Indianapolis Colts vs. K 10.0 points allowed
4. Atlanta Falcons vs. K 9.7 points allowed
5. New Orleans Saints vs. K 9.3 points allowed
6. Chicago Bears vs. K 9.0 points allowed
7. Green Bay Packers vs. K 8.7 points allowed
8. Denver Broncos vs. K 8.7 this week they facec Jason Hanson

Locks this week are:

Ryan Longwell and Jason Hanson – both kickers present favorable TOP 10 match-ups this week and they’re in the TOP 10 in regards to FG and XP attempts.

Steve Smith leaves The Big Apple for The City of Brotherly Love

The Philadelphia Eagles signed ex-Giants receiver Steve Smith to a one-year $4 million dollar deal yesterday, crushing any rumors about Smith possibly re-signing with his old team. But is there any real fantasy football value to speak of here?

Since 2007, Smith has caught 220 balls for 2,386 yards and 11 touchdowns in only 46 games. But microfracture surgery has been at the forefront of Smith’s career this off-season, despite his despire to stay in New York.

The Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, gave Smith a hard look and made a clever call in regard to their roster with Smith’s acquisition.

Already flanked by DeSean Jackson (ranked 8th in WR Rankings) and Jeremy Maclin (ranked 9th in WR Rankings), the Eagles are solidified on the outside, and with Jason Avant in the slot, it initially appears that Smith will be a situational receiver when he is healthy enough to play.

But again, is there any real fantasy value here?

Althought the Giants medical staff felt Smith’s knee was too much of a liability to keep him, the Eagles medical staff suggests otherwise, and even feel as if Smith won’t have to begin the season on the PUP list as originally thought according to Adam Schefter on Twitter.

The moral of the story here is simply this: The other part of Smith’s deal is that the Eagles guarunteed him $ 2 million dollars which means Smith will be doing something on this team, but even with the most recent news, the liklyhood of Smith contributing significantly at the beginning of the season is pretty low.

Smith isn’t worth a draft pick right now with so much uncertainty surrounding him, but if he does recover nicely, and begin contributing on a regular basis by mid-October, he’ll be one of the hottest names off the waiver wire this 2011 fantasy football season.

After falling to pick 1.10, Gore was the first pick in our first expert league of the Summer.

Going with the strategy of taking a top player in each position in the first 4-5 rounds, Hakeem Nicks was the best available receiver left on our board. With Steve Smith’s recovery from microfracture surgery expected to take months, Nicks will easily top last year’s stats in terms of receptions (79) and yardage (1052).

Welker is only a year removed from 123 catches in 2009. Hell, he still had 86 last year when the team was going through Randy Moss withdrawals and added in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. If Chad Ochocinco can squeeze out another strong year, Welker should at least hit 100 receptions again.

Peyton Manning is coming off neck surgery and it’s still unknown if he will be ready by Week One. This is the main reason why he likely slid all the way to the fourth round. Even so, I simply don’t see him missing any of the regular season. While he is getting bumped down by guys like Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, and Michael Vick, Manning will hold his own and put up disgustingly huge numbers if he’s ready by Week One. If so, 30+ touchdown passes here I come!!!!! He still has plenty of time to prepare.

Fred Jackson should get 250+ touches this year.

Jackson had a down year in 2010 after achieving 1000 rushing yards in 2009. But this year will be a different story. He no longer has to compete with Marshawn Lynch. And with CJ Spiller still having fumble issues and pass-protecting problems in practice, Jackson will touch the ball 250+ times this season.

Out of all the picks, this is the one I regret……but just a little bit. Playing in OC Mike Martz’s offense killed Olsen’s value in Chicago. And he’ll have some growing pains as he gets adjusted to playing in a new system and a new quarterback. What I am banking on is Carolina OC Rob Chudzinski making Olsen a big part of the offense. Chud was the tight ends coach in San Diego and was a big part of making some dude named Antonio Gates a stud.

After putting up a huge game in the Super Bowl, and also suffering a burst bursa sac in his left knee, Nelson figures to see a lot more time on the field this year. James Jones coming back does hurt some, but we doubt he has fixed his inconsistencies. And Donald Driver is close to being done completely. Nelson has sleeper written all over him. He’s the team’s most talented receiver outside of Greg Jennings.

Another guy who slid farther than I had anticipated, Addai re-signed with the Colts and will start Week One. Donald Brown showed me nothing last year that would make me believe he can unseat Addai for the starting job. Rookie Delone Carter could make some noise, but the starting job is clearly Addai’s to lose. And as my No. 3 running back, THAT’S GOLD JERRY GOLD!!!

Robert Meachem could finally have the breakout season the Saints have been waiting for.

I initially ragged on Kurt for making a homer pick, but you can’t disagree that this could be Meachem’s year. Finally over injuries, Meachem is showing why the Saints drafted him in the first round back in 2007. With Marques Colston still sidelined with problematic knees, Meachem could end up being Drew Brees’ go-to guy. His upside is off the charts right now.

Hate the Redskins, but I love me some Roy Helu. Ryan Torain can’t stay healthy and Tim Hightower is going to fumble his way into Mike Shanahan’s doghouse. I’m trying to temper my expectations because he’s a rookie, but I can’t see Helu not landing the starting job in-season.

My homer pick of the draft. The Eagles Defense still has to gel with all the new faces, plus a new defensive coordinator, but they should slowly start raining down some terror against opposing offenses. I still worry about the pass rush and the linebackers, but that secondary is just too sick to pass up. If they end up flopping, I’ll be eating some crow in the winter.

For at least one week, I'm hoping Matt Hasselbeck shines as much as his bald noggin does on a sunny day.

I never take three tight ends. Sometimes, I don’t even take two. But I was so worried about my Olsen pick, that I picked up Cook and prayed. This league allows a tight end as a flex position, so Heap will help during the bye weeks. And playing with Kevin Kolb, who likes to throw to tight ends, Heap might have a little bit of TE2 value left.

It was just two weeks ago that fans checking sports scores were shocked to learn that the Carolina Panthers had selected Cam Newton from Auburn with the first overall selection in the 2011 NFL draft. When the NFL ends its lockout, fans can expect Cam Newton and the Panthers offense to TRY and put up huge football scores, but let’s be honest, this likely isn’t the factor but we’ll get into that in a minute.

When Cam Newton was selected first overall two weeks ago by the Carolina Panthers, the entire NFL world was shocked. Since Jake Delhomme left in 2009, the Carolina Panthers have had a quarterback carousel, as they drafted Jimmy Clausen to partner up with Matt Moore in 2010. By bringing in Cam Newton, Panthers management has informed their fans that they expect to contend in the not too distant future. Given how successful Newton was in his only year at Auburn, fantasy football managers should proceed with caution when selecting Newton.

To say that Newton is an intriguing player would be an understatement. On the one hand, he’s been compared to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. Conversely, Newton’s also been compared to former NCAA standout, turned first overall selection bust JaMarcus Russell. For all intents and purposes, today we will stick with the Vick comparison.

Dynasty Fantasy Football

In our humble opinions, we suggest taking a flyer on Cam Newton, if you are playing in a dynasty format fantasy league. The reason we suggest Newton for this type of league, is because despite all of his talent, Newton will need at least a season to a season and a half to get adjusted to the NFL. Keeping with the Vick comparison, a lot of scouts believe that Newton is a better passing version of Vick. Which, considering Vick was runner up to the MVP title last year, could mean that Newton and the Panthers have a good chance of becoming great in a couple of years.

Head to Head Fantasy Football

On the other hand, if you are playing in a head to head fantasy league, we suggest keeping Newton on the waiver wire and in deep leagues you could pick Newton up in place of you starter’s bye week. I don’t even see Cam as a fantasy football sleeper. Newton won’t be the week one starter, as the Panthers will most likely start Jimmy Clausen. However, by week 10 if the Clausen and Moore quarterback combination hasn’t worked out, expect the Panthers to make Newton the starter.

Philadelphia has obvious needs at RG, SS, and OLB, but also, the Eagles have issues at DT and WR. Depending on how the Eagles approach their draft, this could wind up being the perfect draft for the birds, or a draft comprised of missed opportunities.

Let’s take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles’ needs, and what we may see out of the 2011 NFL Draft.

OG/RG/C,  Stefen Wisniewski, Penn State: Right Guard was a problem all year long for the Philadelphia Eagles thanks to injuries and instability. But what makes RG so important for the birds, is the fact that it’s superstar QB Michael Vick’s blindside, and the Eagles are going to do whatever it takes to protect their latest investment.

If the name Stefen Wisniewski sounds familiar, then it should. That’s because Wisniewski’s uncle played RG for the Raiders, and his father played DL for Penn State before being drafted in the second round by the Colts, back in 1982.

Wisniewski is a proven durable, multi-positional player who can, and has, played both sides of the guard position as well as center. He is not only a smart player (Academic All-American) but one of the most skilled offensive lineman in the draft in terms of mechanics. Wisniewski has tremendous leverage, can get in and out of his blocks with speed and precision, and moves with fluently within the line making him an exceptional selection for a team that utilize zone blocking for their QB.

S, Rahim Moore, UCLA: A lot of people keep saying that the Eagles should target the outside linebacker position with their second pick (some even say with their first) but the Eagles have even more pressing needs at the Safety position.

In all reality, it’s a tossup as the Eagles ranked 14th against the pass and 15th against the run (both arguably effected by injuries) but it’s the Safety position that is weaker and far more shallow than the LB slot. Quintin Mikell is 30 and is a free agent who is unclear if he’ll return in 2011. . rookie free safety Nate Allen is coming off a patellar tendon injury and is a slight liability and rookie seventh-rounder Kurt Coleman is not exactly what I would call an option at the moment.

Rahim Moore is a highly decorated safety capable of playing on the free side and short side at the drop of a request. Moore is an excellent sideline-to-sideline player who is quick on his feet, balanced in coverage, and makes for an excellent addition to a team that needs a multi-faceted safety who can play both Cover 2 and 3 and even deep in man situations. Moore is also a good run supporter who knows where to place his angles when in pursuit, and could still be around by the time the Eagles are up again, if the Buccaneers don’t grab him first.

OLB/ILB, Mason Foster, Washington: One of the reasons I mentioned the possibility of the Philadelphia Eagles holding off for a linebacker, is their ability to utilize their depth at ILB to conceivably develop one of their players internally to the ‘will’ linebacker spot. Such a move would allow them to target other, more pressing areas…but it’s nothing more than a theory.

But if the Eagles do go with such an approach, there is still plenty of quality left at the backer position; namely in Washington’s Mason Foster.

Foster is just the type of player the Eagles need in terms of mechanics, aggressiveness, and education, but he also possesses the three skills needed to play at the will (outside/weak) slot:

• Must have aggressive yet extraordinary tackling skills
• Must be able to shed scrimmage blockers and pursuit laterally
• Must be able to not only read coverage, but also drop into coverage effectively and quickly

These are all traits that Foster has as shown in his 239 solo tackles, 9 forced fumbles, and 4 interceptions over his collegiate career. But the consensus is that Foster isn’t viewed as an elite athlete which could actually work in favor of the Eagles if—again—they gamble and wait to target a LB with their third selection.

WR, DeAndre Brown, Southern Mississippi: Don’t think for a second that the Eagles aren’t going to target a wideout before their fifth and sixth selection comes rolling around, and the reason for that is depth, and dimension.

The Eagles need to add another complimentary receiver that can be developed quickly and utilized at some point in the season because players such as Riley Cooper, Jason Avant, Chad Hall and even Sinorice Moss provide roster depth, but average collective talent at best.

DeAndre Brown is a tremendous 6’6” receiver who has first round talent, but will inevitably be found in the 2011 NFL draft basement because of his suspected liability. Brown missed seven games in 2010 and broke his leg back in ’08 but still managed to rack up 2,186 yards and 24 TDs in only 30 games…so the talent is definitely there.

But if the Eagles are willing to gamble a bit, Brown could wind up paying huge dividends if he can remain healthy. If the Eagles go WR and opt to pass on Brown, Kentucky’s Chris Matthews could be another option. The Eagles could also wind up going DT with the fifth selection.

Missing in Action

The first thing worth nothing about Starks is that we don’t have a whole lot to go on in regards to determining if he’ll be a fantasy star next season. Starks was nonexistent during the first 12 weeks of the regular season because, well, he never got on the field.

In fact, I really didn’t know what all of the fuss was about with this 6th round pick out of Buffalo U. Sure he had a nice first three years at Buffalo with over 3,100 yards and 38 touchdowns, but he also missed his senior year with a shoulder injury. So how was an injury-riddled running back from Buffalo worthy any consideration in the NFL?

Still, the Packers front office raved about Starks when the season opened, and some predicted that he would eventually take over the starting job when Ryan Grant went down with a season-ending injury. Of course, that didn’t happen until Week 13, when Starks finally hit the field running with 73 yards on 18 carries. Unfortunately, Starks was knocked out of the next game, and he stayed sidelined until week 17, when he rushed for 20 yards on 5 carries.

Amazing Postseason

Nobody could have predicted Starks’ breakout postseason as he started things off with a bang by running for 123 yards on 22 carries against the Philadelphia Eagles. The next game against the Falcons wasn’t as big of a success as he only gained 66 yards on 25 carries against a tough run defense; however, Starks came back strong against an even better run defense in the Bears when he gained 74 yards on 22 carries, and scored a touchdown. Did I mention this was all on the road?

Starks’ final performance of the postseason came in Super Bowl XLV when he rushed for 52 yards on just 11 carries. I wasn’t expecting much from Starks since Pittsburgh’s run defense was one of the most dominant in NFL history. But I was pleasantly surprised when he averaged over 5 yards a carry, and gained some tough yardage on a few plays. Sure he benefited quite a bit from an incredible performance by Aaron Rodgers that kept the Steelers’ defense off-guard, but he still came through as a rookie on football’s biggest stage. So what does all of this mean for next season?

James Starks’ 2011 Outlook

Right now, Starks has one thing standing between him and a breakout season next year: Ryan Grant. Grant is said to be around 100%, and he was seen running drills at the Super Bowl; the only reason he didn’t play was because the Packers didn’t keep him on the playoff roster.

Of course, many are expecting a trade since he’s due between $3.5 million and $5.25 million next season – money you don’t want to pay in the wake of Starks’ breakout performance. Plus Starks is only earning $1.89 million over four years, so money is definitely an issue here.

Let’s just assume that Grant is gone, and Starks does take over the starting running back duties. According to what we saw last year with the Brandon Jackson/John Kuhn debacle, Starks would undoubtedly be the man in the Green Bay backfield. And it’s safe to say that you could expect at least 1,200 yards and 7-8 touchdowns from the playoffs’ leading rusher.

However, you’ve also got to worry about the injury issues with Starks too. He already missed the first 12 weeks of the season, then he gets hurt after playing just one and a half games. It doesn’t help matters that he also missed his senior year of college football.

In the end, I think we’re looking at a guy who could be a breakout performer if he’s healthy all season. On the other hand, he could be another Jerome Harrison and burn fantasy owners. At this point, I think Starks is worth a 5th-6th round fantasy choice (8-10 man league) for next season. Of course, we’ll have to see how the Ryan Grant situation shakes out before making that decision.
