NY Jets 2014 Draft Predictions: Round 2

April 10, 2014 by Brendan Cole

Moving on to the second round of the draft, there are still a huge number of great players left. I think that this round is where the Jets will look to shore up their receiving corps. Fans and management alike know that Eric Decker does not solve their problems on his own. Look for some help to come his way at pick number 49.

A Look Back At Round 1 Predictions

Who They Should Take In Round 2:

Donte Moncrief WR Ole Miss - Moncrief is one of the most complete

Moncrief isn't a burner, but he is one of the most complete receivers in the 2014 draft.

receivers in the draft and I believe he may fall to the second round due to questions about his speed. While it is true that he lacks the top notch speed of an ideal wide receiver, he makes up for it with his polished route running and amazing awareness. He has top notch hands and is a solid run blocker. These skills would enable him to contribute right out of the gate, whereas some of the players with more raw physical talent might not develop the finer skills of an NFL receiver.

Who They Will Take In Round 2:

Martavis Bryant WR Clemson - I love Martavis Bryant and think that he has worlds of potential. He was actually listed as one of my potential steals of the draft (details here). With that being said, he would not be a good fit for the Jets. Bryant is a project and will likely not contribute immediately. With a pick this high, the Jets need to acquire a player who will make a difference for them right away. I think that his size and measurables may be too good to pass up for a GM who is thinking long-term. It just depends on how much input Rex Ryan has because he needs to make a playoff appearance in 2014.

The depth of receiving talent in this draft should mean that the Jets can hold off until at least the second round to take a top rookie target. Check back soon to see what round 3 might have in store for Rex and Gang Green.
