The New York Yankees told the Associated Press on Sunday evening that starting pitching Andy Pettitte will miss the next 4-5 weeks with a groin strain. Sergio Mitre will replace him in the rotation for the Yankees.
But how will fantasy owners replace Pettitte?
Here are a few options to fill your roster:
Brett Myers, HOU - Myers is a popular name in trade rumors right now, and has a strong chance of finding his way onto a contending team. In his last 21.2 IP, he has 11 Ks and just 2 BB with three quality starts and two wins for the Astros. He is owned by only 14.5 percent of leagues on ESPN.
Tommy Hunter, TEX - In the last month, Hunter has 18 Ks to only six BB over 31.2 IP. He has five quality starts and four wins over that stretch, and the Rangers are playing good ball right now. He is owned in only 53.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
Joe Blanton, PHI - In the last month, Blanton has been red-hot for the Phillies. In his last 40.0 IP he has 33 Ks to just 10 BB, with four quality starts. He is owned by only 28.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
Jonathan Niese, NYM - Niese has been nice (like that?) since joining the Mets' rotation. In his last month, Niese has 29 Ks and only 10 BB in 32.1 IP. He also has four quality starts in that stretch. Niese is owned in only 29.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
