Here is the complete breakdown of Mel Kiper Jr's v1 mock draft. I have included analysis of all 32 picks in the first round.
I will say it is hard figuring out which way teams will go right now before free agency because that will definitely change the way teams draft.
Come back and look for more of my articles on the draft and free agency as the offseason progresses.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB, Jameis Winston, Florida State, 6.4, 235, Soph.
- I think they have too many holes to fill, especially on a quarterback that has acted like Winston has and his head coach threatened to bench him. That is not the guy I want as my first pick.
- They should try to trade this pick
- My choice: Iowa OT, Brandon Scherff or USC DT/DE, Leonard Williams
- Tennessee Titans: QB, Marcus Mariota, Oregon, 6.4, 211, Jr.
- They already have several decent quarterbacks on their roster in Zach Mettenberger, Charlie Whitehurst, and Jake Locker.
- The Titans should look to trade down as well.
- My choice: USC DT/DE Leonard Williams, or Nebraska DE Randy Gregory.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: DL, Leonard Williams, USC, 6.5, 290, Jr.
- I do agree with Kiper in that if Williams is there the Jags should consider taking him.
- My choice: If Iowa OT Brandon Scherff is available they should select him.
- Oakland Raiders: WR Amari Cooper, Alabama, 6.1, 205, Jr.
- QB Derek Carr looks like a keeper and they need to protect him and get him some weapons. I would try to trade the pick first for a team that wants Winston or Mariota and select an offensive tackle.
- My choice: Miamai, FL OT Ereck Flowers.
- Washington Redskins: DE. Randy Gregory, Nebraska, 6.6, 245, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this one if Gregory is there.
- My choice: If Gregory is gone, then Missouri DE Shane Ray
- New York Jets: DE Shane Ray, Missouri, 6.2, 240, Jr.
- I disagree with Kiper on this one. I think Geno Smith is a usable QB, but they have got to protect him better. Their defense is pretty good.
- My choice: OT T. J. Clemmings from Pittsburgh, or Stanford OT Andrus Peat
- Chicago Bears: S Landon Collins, Alabama, 6.0, 212, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick.
- Collins is solid versus the run and the pass
- Atlanta Falcons: DE Dante Fowler, Florida, 6.2, 271, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick as well.
- The Falcons are dead last versus the pass and Fowler is a very aggressive pass rusher
- New York Giants: OT Brandon Scherff, Iowa, 6.4, 320, Sr.
- I do agree with Kiper on the position, but I think Scherff should be long gone by now.
- My choice: OT Andrus Peat from Stanford, or DE Bud Dupree from Kentucky
- St. Louis Rams: OT T. J. Clemmings, Pittsburgh, 6.4, 313, Sr.
- I disagree with Kiper in that I thing the Rams offensive line is pretty good.
- QB Sam Bradford has not turned into what the Rams had hoped, and I like Austin Davis, but I think this is where Winston and Mariota could go unless someone trades up for them.
- My choice: QB Marcus Mariota from Oregon
- Minnesota Vikings: WR Devante Parker, Louisville, 6.2, 207, Sr.
- I do agree with Kiper in that QB Teddy Bridgewater needs some more weapons, but he also needs some help in the offensive line.
- My choice: WR Amani Cooper from Alabama
- Cleveland Browns: DT Danny Shelton, Washington, 6.1, 332, Sr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick. Shelton will be a good pick for the Browns.
- The Browns defense ranked 32nd versus the run last season.
- New Orleans Saints: OLB Vic Beasley, Clemson, 6.2, 220, Sr.
- I agree on this pick with Kiper
- The Saints defense ranked 25th in the NFL versus the pass.
- Beasley will fit in that 3-4 defense perfectly at OLB putting pressure on the QB.
- Miami Dolphins: OLB Shaq Thompson, Washington, 6.2, 224, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick
- The Dolphins need help at linebacker and Thompson is a great athlete.
- He is also a very good running back as well.
- San Francisco 49ers: WR Kevin White, West Virginia, 6.2, 211, Sr.
- I do agree with Kiper that the 49ers need a wide receiver.
- White is a good one, but Devante Parker may be available here as well.
- Houston Texans: CB Trae Waynes, Michigan State, 6.1, 182, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick as well, because the Texans ranked 21st versus the pass last season.
- Don't be surprised though if the Texans go after a wide receiver here that may have fallen to them, such as White from West Virginia.
- San Diego Chargers: DE Arik Armstead, Oregon, 6.7, 285, Jr.
- If the Chargers do not re-sign Brandon Flowers they will really need a corner back and there are several available here.
- Peters from Washington, Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon, Rollins from Miami of Ohio, and Williams from Florida State.
- Kansas City Chiefs: WR Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma, 6.4, 225, Jr.
- The Chiefs ranked 29th in the NFL in passing yards.
- I do agree with Kiper on this pick
- Cleveland Browns: OT Ereck Flowers, Miami, (FL), 6.6, 325, Jr.
- I do agree with Kiper in that the Browns should draft an offensive tackle, but Flowers should be long gone by this pick.
- My choice: OT La'el Collins from LSU
- Philadelphia Eagles: CB Marcus Peters, Washington, 5.11, 193, Jr.
- I really think the Eagles will try to move up and pick Mariota, but I believe Winston will be available here.
- I would not draft Winston myself, but I feel if he is there the Eagles will take him.
- If Winston or Mariota not available, then I agree with Kiper on this pick of Peters.
- Peters if he is available or another corner makes sense especially because the Eagles ranked 31st versus the pass last season
- Cincinnati Bengals: OLB Bud Dupree, Kentucky, 6.3, 268, Sr.
- I do agree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Bengals defense ranked 20th versus the run and the pass last season.
- Pittsburgh Steelers: CB Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest, 6.0, 175, Sr.
- I believe they should look for a defensive lineman or outside linebacker instead of a corner back to help rush the passer.
- Defensive lineman Armstead from Oregon or Owamagbe Odighizuwa from UCLA should be available here.
- Detroit Lions: DT Malcolm Brown, Texas, 6.3, 317, Sr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick.
- If they are unable to sign Suh then they will need to replace him.
- If they can sign Suh they should look for offensive line help with this pick.
- Arizona Cardinals: RB Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin, 6.0, 207, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Cardinals must get someone that can spell Andre Ellington and Gordon would be great to do that.
- Carolina Panthers: OT Andrus Peat, Stanford, 6.6, 315, Jr.
- I do agree with Kiper on this pick if Peat is available.
- The Panthers need to pick the best available offensive lineman.
- Baltimore Ravens: WR Devin Funchess, 6.4, 325, Jr.
- The Ravens defense ranked 23rd versus the pass last season.
- They should draft the best available CB such as Kevin Johnson from Wake Forest, Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon, Rollins from Miami of Ohio, and Williams from Florida State.
- Dallas Cowboys: DT Jordan Phillips, Oklahoma, 6.5, 334, Soph.
- I do agree with Kiper in that the Cowboys need a defensive tackle that can rush the passer
- The Cowboys could draft a CB, RB, WR, OT, or DT with this pick depending on what they do in free agency.
- My choice at this time: DT Micahel Bennett from Ohio State
- Read my article I wrote about this pick.
- Denver Broncos: LB Benardrick McKinney, Mississippi State, 6.4, 243, Jr.
- I disagree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Broncos need to do a better job of protecting their QB and do a better job running the football.
- My choice: OT Ty Sambrailo from Colorado State.
- Indianapolis Colts: WR Jaelen Strong, Arizona State, 6.3, 212, Jr.
- I disagree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Colts running back stable was hit hard by injury last season and I feel they need to get a good young running back to go with QB Andrew Luck, and WR T. Y. Hilton.
- My choice: The best available running back such as Tevin Coleman from Minnesota or Todd Gurley from Georgia.
- Green Bay Packers: DT Eddie Goldman, Florida State, 6.3, 315, Jr.
- I agree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Packers defense ranked 23rd in the NFL in run defense. Goldman will be a great pick to shore up that defensive front.
- New England Patriots: WR Sammie Coates, Auburn, 6.2, 200, Jr.
- I disagree with Kiper on this pick.
- The Patriots have the 9th ranked passing offense in the NFL, but they have the 17th ranked pass defense in the NFL.
- My choice: The top ranked CB left such as Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon, Rollins from Miami of Ohio, and Williams from Florida State.
- Seattle Seahawks: WR Devin Smith, Ohio State, 6.0, 199, Sr.
- I do agree with Kiper in that the Seahawks need a lot of help at wide receiver, but I feel there will be other receivers available that are better than Smith.
- Smith is a good one. He is a big play receiver and one of the top receivers in Ohio State history which says a lot about him.
- My choice: WR Nelson Agholor from USC
