The idea of a dynamic offense led by explosive pro bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon is becoming farther and farther from reality for Cleveland Browns' fans. The breakout player in 2013 was arrested early this morning in Raleigh, NC for being suspected of driving under the influence. Gordon was processed and released for bond.
This news comes on the heels of a stellar 2013 career that saw the young wide receiver rack up 1,646 yards to become 2013 leading receiver in total yards. In week 12 and 13 he was able to in the first time in NFL history come up with two consecutive 200+ yard games as well as being selected to his first Pro Bowl. This remarkable season was achieved despite being suspended two games at the beginning of the season for violating the leagues drug policy.
That incident however was just the beginning of his trouble with substances and decision making. In May it was reported that Gordon was again facing suspension for a failed drug test however this time he faced a year long suspension.
When it was announced that the Browns had selected quarterback Johnny Manziel in the first round of the 2014 draft, fans all over salivated at the idea of the combo the two would make that could be reminiscent of that which Manziel had at Texas A&M with Mike Evans. It seems as though that dream is becoming more of the pipe variety as Josh Gordon got himself in more trouble in the midst of the suspension he was already facing.
The Browns had been preparing for the loss of their star wide receiver in the off-season and had went on as if it wasn't a big deal. It may be better off to trade the young talent while he still has value and before he becomes a complete train wreck. The upcoming season will undoubtedly be Gordon free and time will only tell whether he will ever get back on the field for the Browns on Sunday.
