Josh McCown, previously a backup for the Chicago Bears, now has a strong chance to start for the Tampa Bey Buccaneers. Rejoining his previous coach in Lovie Smith,
Chicago Bears QB Josh McCown leaving Lambeau Field after upsetting the Green Bay PackersJosh gets to start fresh yet still stay in a familiar system. "It is his spot to lose" according to Smith. Last year during a small stretch for the Bears, Jay Cutler got injured and who do they turn to, but Josh McCown. Talk about a valuable backup. McCown appeared in 8 games last season throwing for 1,829 yards, and 13 TDs vs just 1 interception. He went 3W vs 5L. His record wasn't that great and the Bears nearly lost there chance for a playoff ticket but he did just enough to keep his team in the thick of the playoff hunt until the last game.
Leaving behind is the cold weather of Chicago, a decent defense, good running back, and wide out corps. He gets to leave the competitive North division full of mostly powerful Quarterbacks in Jay Cutler, Matt Stafford, Aaron Rogers, and Matt Cassell/Josh Freeman/Christian Ponder??? and go to a heavy weighted offensive division. Josh is going to have his work cut out competing against Fellow QBs Drew Brees, Cam Newton, and Matt Ryan. Good Luck!
Approaching is a warm weather climate, with a good running back and a few weapons to throw to. I think the differences are the defenses of Chicago and Tampa. Last year Chicago ranked 3rd overall in total defense. Yes, they had there flaws but it still gave there offense a chance to win the game. Tampa ranked 16th in total defense and looked totally lost and confused at times.
With loads of cap space this offseason, Tampa needs help at pretty much all positions but especially on defense. If they can upgrade there secondary and get some quality depth along the front seven, I think they could make a nice turnaround from last season.
It's a toss up on this acquisition for Tampa, but in the end, I think they upgraded there quarterback position and put themselves in a position to draft the best player available in this years 2014 nfl draft.
