On Tuesday afternoon, another star went down to a thumb injury.
Philadelphia All-Star second baseman Chase Utley was placed on the DL because of a thumb injury. The Phillies also placed third baseman Placido Polanco the DL with an elbow injury.
Utley is clearly not a player to consider dropping, but will also leave a first or second-round void on your roster. How can you pick up some production in the middle infield? Let's look at a few options to replace Utley.
Gordon Beckham, CHW
Beckham had an incredible rookie season, but has been awful to begin his sophomore season. He just had a good series against the Cubs, though, hitting his first home run since early-April on Friday and then hitting a strong double into the gap on Saturday. He could be ready to bust out, and is owned in only 36.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
Kevin Frandsen, LAA
In the last 15 days, Frandsen has scored nine runs and has a .375 OBP for the Angels. He has a stolen base as well, but won't replace the pop lost with Utley going down. He is owned in only 3.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
