On Sunday afternoon the Diamondbacks traded ace Dan Haren to the Angels for a package of three players, with lefty starter Joe Saunders being the biggest piece heading back to Arizona.
In Haren, the Angels add a quality front-of-the-rotation guy that has American League West experience from his time with the A's. He'll certainly help a rotation that already has an All Star up front with Jered Weaver, and should see improved run production behind him as well.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks add a nice lefty and a couple solid prospects in the trade, and Saunders should be seen as a solid fantasy option for the remainder of the season. The National League West isn't a division loaded with offense (only Colorado ranks in baseball's top 10 in runs scored).
Because Haren has experience in the American League, it's a safe play to expect continued success from him. Saunders should be seen as a potential waiver claim in leagues where he's available.
