Reports Tuesday afternoon are that Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Edinson Volquez has been suspended 50 games for violating Major League Baseball's PED policy.
Fantasy impact: intrigue.
Volquez, who will turn 27 in July, burst onto the scene going 17-6 in 2008, but has had arm issues since. He's been a buy-low candidate since, but this likely kills his fantasy value; most leagues don't allow suspended players to be placed on IR, so he's now a wasted roster spot.
That being said, Volquez might be worth watching near the end of his suspension. This will buy him more time to get his arm healthy, and he could be a nice late-season steal if he's put on waivers.
Here are some Sleeper candidates if you're losing Volquez.
