With week 1 in the books, we can finally begin to judge teams accurately, lending more credence to our FanDuel and DraftKings week 2 value picks. As the year plays out, weaknesses get exposed and I can better analyze where players will break out. Most of the picks from last week did pretty well, so let's keep that momentum into week 2. Don't forget to use some of these picks in our optimal lineup tool as well!
Quarterback
Blake Bortles, JAC at SD
- FanDuel $8,100
- DraftKings $6,700
- The Chargers allowed Alex Smith to pass for 363 yards. You heard me right, Alex Smith.
Matt Ryan, ATL at OAK
- FanDuel $7,900
- DraftKings $6,800
- Last week Brees put on a clinic against the Oakland secondary exposing holes larger than the Grand Canyon. Ryan isn't Brees but he has the weapons to surpass his expected point value.
Running Back
C.J. Anderson, DEN vs IND
- FanDuel $7,800
- DraftKings $6,800
- A high priced running back, I know. But he should be the highest priced back after what he did last week to the Panthers. This week he get to make pancakes at home versus the Colts, who are hurting really bad on defense. Take advantage here, especially in cash games as your RB1.
Jeremy Langford, CHI vs PHI
- FanDuel $6,500
- DraftKings $4,600
- Philly looked good last week, against the Browns... Langford is a 20+ touch running back for a modest price and the RBBC concerns we had about da Bears are a thing of the past. He should easily hit his expected point value and have ample opportunities to exceed said value.
Doug Martin, TB at AZ
I'll let some of the stats from our optimal lineup tool do the talking here.
Wide Receiver
Tajae Sharpe, TEN at DET
FanDuel $6,000
DraftKings $4,100
This one is simple. He's a GPP play on DraftKings, avoid on Fanduel. TEN will be trailing in this one (Stafford is red hot ever since his new OC took over) and this means tons of targets for Sharpe. You could pivot to Walker but I'll get to him later.
Jordan Matthews, PHI at CHI
FanDuel $6,900
DraftKings $6,900
Wentz has shown his hand and that hand tells us his loves Matthews. Forgot the insane amount of targets Matthews received last week, let's look at this week. The Eagles should be playing from behind most of the game which leads to plenty of garbage time stats. Yes garbage time is real and a historical analysis of garbage time production proved 1 thing to me, garbage time WR's are a strong play in DFS.
Doug Baldwin, SEA at LA
FanDuel $7,000
DraftKings $6,600
Prior to his week 1 performance former head coach Jon Gruden called Baldwin a "junkyard dog" who can "do it all". We can't really disagree can we? Why is his price so low? He'll hit value for sure in week 2 against a team that can't keep thier defense off the field.
WR Victor Cruz, NYG vs NO
FanDuel $5,700
DraftKings $4,300
WTF Bruh! I shouldn't have to tell anyone this.. I'm sure he will be the highest owned WR in GPP tournaments and a perfect salary saving pick in cash games.
Tyrell Williams, SD vs JAC
FanDuel $5,400
DraftKings $3,700
Keenan Allen is done for the season. Now entering the Tyrell Williams era. Standing at 6-3, 215 pounds he's the perfect option to replace Allen. If he produces this week you'll see his salary rise. I'm tossing him into a couple GPP lineups and fully expect him to surpase his expected point value.
Tight End
Delanie Walker, TEN at DET
FanDuel $6,600
DraftKings $4,500
Heavily under utilized in week 1, Walker should rebound nicly in a game the Titans will be trailing. Coach Mike Mularkey stated they should have done a better job getting Walker more involved during last weeks matchup and while I don't think he'll ensure targets in week 2, I do think Walker is in a good spot to produce over his expected point value.
Dennis Pitta, BAL at CLE
FanDuel – $4,800
DraftKings – $2,800
The best value pick of the week. The Browns can actaully put points on the board against the Ravens, look at the numbers from 2015. With that said, I expect Pitta to get his "welcome back" touchdown again the browns. This is the perfect pivot play as everyone is seeing Barnidge here.
Gary Barnidge, CLE vs BAL
FanDuel - $6,000
DraftKings - $4,000
Playing at home, check. Got his boy McCown back, check. Has a history of torching the Ravens, check.
Team Defense
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins
FanDuel – $4,500
DraftKings – $3,000
The Pat's at home against the Fins who just suck, I give up on them. There, like my analysis?
Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles
FanDuel $4,400
DraftKings $2,900
John Fox vs rookie QB (Wentz) on the road. Need I say more? Vegas has the opening lines with a over under of 42.5 and CHI -2.5. This gives the Eagles an implied total of 20.
