My friends at winmyfantasyleague.com have put together a Fantasy Basketball Draft Kit loaded with links to rankings and what not. Links are below but first...
What sort of strategy should you be following when drafting?:
It is generally best to go with the best player available, but with that said I like to focus on multi-category point guards and power forwards in the earlier rounds. This years talent crop is so deep that solid options remain at all positions in the later rounds.
I always ensure to grab two C eligible players by the time the 8th round comes along, as the C market can get scarce with proven commodities. Upside players will be available but multiple variables must come together for a breakout candidate to realize his potential.
I also like to get deep at the PG position and I try to land shooting guards who also contribute in the assist and rebound columns.
The only time to chase stats per se is in the final rounds of your draft in bigger leagues. If you player pool is less than 180 players than there is no room to chase particular statistical categories.
Potential vs. Last season
I like to draft based on potential. Drafting purely based on last years stats is very short-sighted as player movement and philosophy changes make last years stats only a possible indicator to account for. For example Stephen Curry is being drafted in the 1st round of fantasy drafts based on his monstrous performance in the 2nd half of the season, whereas new teammate David Lee is being drafted on the strength of his performance with the New York Knicks. Drafting based on potential allows you to take into account that David Lee leaving the Knicks where he was a top option on offense and going to a Warriors team where he will be no better than the 3rd option this year.
Pre-ranking - Do you pre-rank?
Pre-ranking is a must, there are so many things going on during a draft that a player may slip your mind. Participate in a couple of mock draft before your draft to fine tune your pre-rankings
