Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell said today that he's being misjudged, well, not in terms of his putrid statistics, those include a 39.8 quarterback rating, one touchdown pass, 378 yards and a 41.3 completion percentage. To say he doesn't care, though, that's where he begs to differ. "If you look at it all the time, even though we score a touchdown or two, I clap, go give the guys praise, but you never see me (getting too excited)," Russell said, per the Contra Costa Times. "My coach in high school always told me to stay on an even keel, that way, nobody will ever read you, they will never know what you're thinking about, how high you are, how low you are. I think that's their opinion about how things go on, but they really don't know what's going on in my mind." Source: NFP.com
He's being misjudged as to him having talent. At some point, a team has to say that a players lack of development is hurting the team as a whole...a team can go through a players growing pains, but there ultimately comes a time where you as an owner and GM have to say he's not developing...he's hurting the team. But then again, we are talking about Al...
Why the hell should he care? He miraculously waltzed into the 1st overall pick because he could chuck a ball 70 yards and signed a deal worth, what, $25,000,000 guaranteed!?! I wouldn't give a heck either. Best thing that could happen to him is getting benched where he doesn't even have to work to get paid or let the team release him and he'll get free money. Russell has played it right! Played Al right, that is...
I agree with 86, I really don't think the talent is there for Russell as an NFL player. And the first pick in the 2010 draft, the Oakland Raiders choose, Sam Bradford from Oklahoma.
Quite possibly the worst starter in the NFL, right next to Brady Quinn (I'm counting him.) Well, they were right - Russell/Quinn will always be thrown in the same boat.
Ok, JaMarcus, we all think you care but don't have the talent to be a NFL QB. There...feel better now?
If I had a 39 QB rating, there would be stitches on my fore head from slamming my head into walls.:icon_rolleyes:
misjudged, no. No one thinks he's a bad guy, he's a terrible player. you can't misjudge that, because .. " The stats don't lie ".
Are we witnessing the prelude to another Vince Young? God help us if those mild-mannered Raiders fans work him.
I can't imagine he'd crack under the weight of being a crapty QB now because he's never had any success to build him up - this guys 'career' has been one slow bungle after another, its not like he wowed us and then the wheels fell off.
