i was reading some articles and some questions being thrown at the DC website, and this has crossed my mind too. Is the coaching staff holding Romo back or have just over coached him to the point that he is to worried about making a mistake that he is playing to robotic and stiff. should Romo just play his game the way he did when he first started ergo move around alot more in the pocket and such. Just think back the season whe Romo took over for leadfoot he was alot more raw but he got things done same with his first full year as a starter. Yeah it helped that he had TO there but he still had to get the ball him. I dont know what do you guys think?
Romo is cracking under the pressure. Garret wants Romo to throw like Drew Brees instead of sticking to the teams strength. Plus the O-line isn't the best at pass protection. So what is the logical conclusion? Oh yea have Romo throw the ball 45 times.
^^^ yep, like i said in the other thread, the coaching staff is failing by not adjusting. run the ball some more and shorten up the passing game by using the TE more and passing to the rb's in the falt some more. it's builds romo's confidence, gets the ball out quicker on passing downs and pulls the lb's and db's closer to the line of scrimage which will give you more opportunities downfield.
the running backs don't know where to line up. the receivers don't know their routes. and the o-line doesn't know the counts. Yes, the cowboys are holding romo back.
Dallas was leading the NFL in rushing so I do not know how much more running yo want them to do. Two of their three backs are banged up so that will cut down on how much they can run the ball. Dallas has been using their TEs and RB but that is part of the problem. A TE is easier for a defense to limit in the passing game than a WR is. Right now it seem that teams are playing all their players up close to the line because there is not a WR that they fear getting deep.
He's a good QB if he's put in the right situation. He's not in the right situation right now. He doesn't have a go to wide receiver. Everyone in the building knows he's going to try to throw to Witten as often as he can. There's just no threat on the outside. Williams doesn't garner double coverage...so it's only natural that he's going to have a harder time throwing because "everyone's" going to be covered. They are doing a good job running. Like smeagle said, they need to shorten up the pass game and give Romo some high percentage passes. He didn't just wake up one day and not have the talents that he had the past two seasons.
manster, dallas is 10th in rushing attempts and 3rd in yrds. my point is run it some more. not a lot more but when you're averaging 6yrds a carry and your qb is struggling it's a no brainer to me. on the short passing game, they are not sending the TE & RB's on the right routes IMO. bottom line is this though, your wideouts suck right now. that isn't romo's fault. it wasnt his fault hurd couldnt hold onto that ball against denver. i don't care about bailey, that ball was in his hands with the game on the line and he failed. i don't think romo is an elite qb at this stage but i don't think he's a bum either. ultimately this responsibilty falls on the people picking the players and coaching them.
We don't use our TE's at all hardly. And sure a TE is easier for a defense to limit... but we're not even attempting to get Jason Witten the ball. At all. When we had T.O.. all the media made the big deal that Romo throws too much to Witten, instead of T.O. Well.. Terrell's gone, and Inclulbus is making a big deal that Romo throws too much to everyone else, Instead of Witten. Sam Hurd Twice? Without Witten even going into pass coverage.. people can say well the broncos sent 35 players, half of them coming in off the sideline so we had to use Witten to block, and all in all.. you call that person a dumb son of a snitch, cause right now.. he's our best receiver. He's Tony's room mate, he's who Tony is comfortable throwing the ball too, and knowing especially on 3rd downs, who to get the ball too if he wants a 1st down. That's Jason Witten. Secondly, sure.. first in rushing was nice while it lasted, but that was because of felix's big runs is why we were first in rushing, it wasnt because we was running it down peoples throats.. like we easily could regardless how many RB's are banged up. " Thats our position with the deepest depth " but yet we throw the ball 42 times to the position we have no depth in at all? and that's after being up 10-0 on Denver.. then we threw 42 times. Ri-Freaking-rod-u-lous. Tony is a good QB. I feel good with Roy Williams regardless how many people say what about him.. right now, he's the only person they have to cover because we don't have a legit #2, and Jason Witten is being kept in to block, so there's no pressure coming off Roy for him and Tony to hook up. Good QB, Not enough weapons, especially to be throwing 42 times a game, 2 years ago, that would be lovely.. but this is now, and we need to run the ball, and get a better playcaller in there. Fire Garrett, and make Wade Offensive Co-Ordinator too. His Defense plays conservative, that's what our Offense needs to do, cause it moves the ball better.. so maybe it would work out.
I think the question should be "Is Romo holding the Cowboys back". I don't know what it is, or why, but he just doesn't seem like the player he was 2 years ago.
not at all. He shouldnt have to be doing the things he's doing when we got, what we got. He's getting no kind of protection at all. And we're killing teams running the ball, why should he have to throw 42 times a game?
totaly agree man our line is good at running but they dont give romo enoguh time alot of the times **********Automerged Doublepost********** and teams now that romo, oves throwing to witten so he gets covered up daring romo to throw at the wr which people arent scared of. why were arnt using MBennet more is mind boggling
opposing teams know this, keep him int he pocket and Romo will beat himself, let him roll out and he can beat you. No the Cowboys arent holding Romo back, they screwed his development up when they let Parcells go for TO.
It's like Omen said to begin with.. and what I've said all along. they're making Tony try to play like a Drew Brees or maybe a Peyton Manning.. but that's not who he is. Let Tony be Tony, and our problems will be solved. Well, and better playcalling. But mainly, let Tony be Tony. Yes, he will turn the ball over. Yes, he will make mistakes. Yes, we'll be angry every time he does so. But in the end, it'll be worth it when he's much more productive than he is now.
I watch him against KC, and he just has no zip on the ball or he doesnt read the Defenses that well either. I think that he puts 2 much pressure on himself. he forgot how to have fun and just let the ball fly.
