NFL ratings are at their highest in 20 years. Through the first four weeks of the season, games are drawing their best average viewership since 1989 at 17.4 million, up 14 percent from the same point in 2008. The average was 18.1 million in 1989 through four weeks. Source: Yahoo Sports.com
Word! Last night I had an thought... with all the Hispanic pride stuff going on last night with the Dolphin game it became aparent more and more Latinos are following the NFL. For one, most if not all my Dynamo buddies from Mexico are all on Sanchez's jock because he's Mexican. They don't even follow the Texans or Cowboys. Most Spanish TV sport shows will talk about the NFL and Sanchez's highlites are always on. 2nd.. Miami is going after the hispanic market. Just look at the intro to the Monday night match up. That stadium had the vibe of a South American footie match with the smoke bombs, loud music and the passion. 3rd Miami is a gridiron city just like Houston. Recently a local group tried to purchase an MLS franchise partnered with FC Barcalona, one of the biggest brands in Soccer. That failed! why.. no support in a hispanic market. GridIron is king!
Word. This is why you can no longer touch QB's and why they don't care what you think about it. Bad cat calls etc. are here to stay. Hopefully they can just be more consistent.
I think there are a lot more people staying home to watch but even if it is 5,000 per stadium that's only 90,000 per weekend. That wouldn't make 14 percent increase I am guessing. Where's a math whiz when you need one?
