In the span of a few hours, Will Witherspoon, the newest member of the Philadelphia Eagles, went from playing on an 0-6 team to playing for a 3-2 team with playoff aspirations. "It means a lot to go to a team that is going to be great, or has the opportunity to be a contender," Witherspoon said. "You have to understand that you have to do what's best to make it in this game. I think going to a team that already has a couple wins under its belt and is already moving in the direction that I think, as a player, you'd like to be (moving in)." The Eagles acquired Witherspoon in the waning minutes of the 4 PM (EST) trade deadline from the St. Louis Rams for rookie wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a 2010 fifth-round draft pick. Head coach Andy Reid said that Witherspoon will step right in and play middle linebacker in place of the hampered Omar Gaither. "I'm definitely comfortable (playing inside)," Witherspoon said. "I'm a guy who just wants to be out on the field and have the opportunity to make plays. I think (coverage) is one of my strong suits. Again, it's one of those things I've always had to do, I've always had to be comfortable with, and I've always taken great pride in. yes, you guys got him cheaply. however, he's going to START immediately? um, expect a lot of growing pains for a while. maybe reid is hoping his defense can hide witherspoon's learning curve for a while so that he can learn on the field and be ready for January.
I would worry about that more if not for how atrocious Trotter has been. TE's have eaten us alive. Without picking up the Eagles defensive playbook he's already an upgrade.

I am not bashing the trade but if you would have asked me at the start of the season I would not have been able to tell you what team Witherspoon played for or if he had retired. The one question I do have is why was it Brandon Gibson traded and not Brown? Was it the eagles call on that or did the Rams want Gibson.
Oh snap, you didn't know the current status of Witherspoon's career??? Crap! Why did we trade for this guy?! Manster doesn't know about Witherspoon! Stupid Eagles! It's probably because St Louis gets no love whatsoever. Rightfully so. Brandon Gibson has more upside than Reggie, and doesn't come with a HUGE price tag.
